Before/After a storm?

Re: Before/After a storm?

In my opinion, the best fishing is before and during a storm. This is because when a low pressure comes through before and during the storm, the fish go on a feeding frenzy, but after the storm, if a high pressure comes through, the fish just go dormant and don't feed as readily.

Re: Before/After a storm?

Before any major weather change the fish tend to go into feeding mode. After i have had mixed results, but typically the fishing seems to be slow after a storm. The exception i have found is a cold front and thunderstorm that breaks a heat wave. Then i find an amazing frenzy just as the storm hits, and good fishing the next few days.

People tell you about high pressure being good or bad, or low pressure good or bad...after fishing 7 days a week for 7 years guiding i can tell you any pressure is fin as long as its relatively stable, and any pressure change will stimualte a shotr term frenzy. In most cases drastic changes tend to lead to a frenzy followed by slow fishing.

Re: Before/After a storm?

Last friday night I was fishing down on some river backwater which is loaded with milfoil. I fished it once before without any luck. On this day storms where a brewing in and around the area. The bass where slamming my top water bait like crazy. I went back sunday night during the same time frame. tried everything under the sun I could and got natta. The only difference was there where no storms about.

I have always tore them up BEFORE the front moves thru. Fishing during the storm...uhhh...as long as it's not lightning, yeah, caught them then too. Not much fun though.
