Recruitment Lookin Good!

After 2 consecutive years of bad hatches in Mississippi things are sure looking up this year. So far every weekend I've been out and about scouting for the upcoming bow season I've seen multiple hens with polts. smile.gif I didn't hardly see any of the little ones last summer. frown.gif Fortunatley 3 years ago we had a record hatch in the area I do most of my turkey hunting. We started seeing polts at the end of April and the ones I saw this past weekend are getting pretty big now. Looks like we should have plenty of gobblers sounding off in a couple of years. Keeping my fingers crossed now that most of them make it to be adults.

That is great news! Last year I saw only one poult and it was about the size of the egg it hatched out of.

This year, actually just last weekend, I busted a flock of 2 hens with about 30 poults. I sat down on the spot and started soft calling with my diaphragm and had momma almost run into me. She then saw me, putted and her and her poults flew off. The poults were about the size of a chicken.

Gus that's a lot of little ones coming up in the ranks. You should hear a lot of gobbling activity in the coming years.

Tracy, we'll have to see how our schedules look come next spring. Who knows, maybe we can work it out.
