Buck hit by car this AM

I took this picture 2 days ago, and this morning as I was leaving the house, I saw a policeman standing over a live deer at the end of the street with his revolver pulled. I watched as he finished the poor buck off. Someone had clipped his reaend with a van and broke both back legs.

I pulled the buck off the road for the officer, who was too busy at the time with traffic.

I hate when that happens. In an average year a deer is killed every hour on Saskatchewan road ways! Can you believe it!

At least the policeman had enough decency to do that quickly.

We had a newbie cop in my hometown municipality(county), that had his gun drawn on a buck in the ditch. I stopped and asked what was going down. He said that its front legs were broken. When I asked why he hadn't shot it yet, he got all annoyed, and in a very snotty remark said "I've informed Natural Resources, they'll be here within the hour. NOW please get in your car and leave!"

I spouted off a bit to him about how he should shoot it immediatley and not wait for Natural Resources. I could tell he was just afraid to shoot the gun. I almost thought he was going to hand me the gun. The poor guy was really torn up. I imagine he was straight out of the city core. I think he was just embarrassed that he couldn't, when he snapped at me. Just as I was about to leave, MNR showed up and had it done very quickly.

Re: Buck hit by car this AM

I am always saddened to see a young deer, buck or doe, get hit on the road. We had a deer hit on our road about a month ago which is a country back road and deer are rarely hit here. Someone cut off the entire neck and head and left the rest of the body in the ditch. The body looked to be of a young deer so hopefully it wasn't one of the larger bucks running around.
