The_Kat
I am working for the Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation and right now we are mowing the sides of all the highways in Hughes County ( our district ). Right now we are mowing in the Calvin area on some tall hills that are slanted at some bad angles. You can't steer, you simply have to steer with your back brakes....it's that bad. Well I got stuck on the very top, and tried to back up, when I did I broke traction and slid backwards all the way down the hill. My brush hog jackkifed and I slammed into a cedar tree completely ripping my muffler off and breaking bow sides of my tie rod in the front. I got out, and only have a scratch on my face. I am thankful for that tree or otherwise I woulda hit this culvert at the bottom and probably would have flipped over backwards. I was sure nuff scared. Sad thing is, it was on one of the smaller slopes, the big ones come next week lol!

IowaDeerHunter
Re: Tractor Accident Wow,sounds like one heck of a dangerous job, hope you get paid a lot! LOL Glad you are ok though, it could've been worse. Stay safe on the steeper slopes.

Tominator
Re: Tractor Accident Geez Kyle. Take it easy. Tractor stuff sure is scary. There's not much room for error with them. I almost got a pant leg caught up in a PTO one day. Talk about scared straight.

The_Kat
Re: Tractor Accident Ya, I ge piad 9$ an hr. I told em if I felt uncomfy I wasn't doing it. I wasn't scared at all and that I was in control til I broke traction. It's no big deal to lost traction and go down frontwards, it's the backwards part that is scary lol. christsavedme
Re: Tractor Accident So did you have to go home and change your pants? LOL Sounds like you are lucky. Did that on a dozer one day and had my hand on the side brace.....well lets just say the hand got between the dozer and a tree. Got me a cast out of that one for a couple weeks. wtnhunt
Re: Tractor Accident Glad you are ok. Hills can be tricky. Rolling a tractor over can happen quick. Been cutting these hills here for years and have to take some of them pretty slow.
AaronS
Re: Tractor Accident [ QUOTE ] I wonder which streak marks were longer.....the tractor's or the sphinctor's???? [/ QUOTE ] Now that's funny. I'm assuming the tractor is equipped with a ROPS and seatbelt....be sure to keep that seatbelt ON.

dogdoc
Re: Tractor Accident man partner--i bet that was a little scary. I have brush hogging on an incline. I'm always scared of tipping my tractor over so I just let the grass grow. glad you're ok and be careful. todd
hutchies
Re: Tractor Accident I am guessing the only reason they mow the sides of the road is to keep major grass fires from starting. Other than the obvious reason to make it look better.
The_Kat
Re: Tractor Accident The state is retarded, thats why we mow fence to fence on all the states highways. In 25 years they've only turned one over, and that guy wasn't hurt at all. The mower itself is 15 foot wide and it really helps to stablize you on the slopes, but it's no use going backwards lol. Now if the draw bar breaks, you would be in a heap of trouble. LOL, all you okies traveling to The shoot in a few weeks that are going down HWY 75 through Wetumka to Calvin, look at them BIG hills once your almost to Calvin, you will see my skids.....
