VTbowman
Real does peeing right in front of you... Store bought? Who knows. They all seem to work for someone.. I tend to not use any of them and opt for scent free ambush style hunting.

Swamphunter
Re: luck from deer lures? Had a buck come walking right in on some Tinks 69...nose in air, lip curling, licking his nose..then blammo, laying on the ground!!!
VTbowman
Re: luck from deer lures? Yes definately only use doe estrous when they are rutting or barely getting ready to. Real early bow season the deer are not even close to rutting in VT so using it would or may scare them off. Younger deer will always be curious but the older, wiser deer know when something is not suppose to be there. JMO I had use Tinks69 scent bombs and had mixed results. Jury is out on that as far as I am concerned...
Sam16
Re: luck from deer lures? I've been making my own decisions for the last couple years after listening to my dads way of hunting for a couple of years. No matter what time of year, my dad will put some kind of scent out. Now when i say put scent out, it means he will walk around his treestand almost 360 degrees, spreading scent out sporadically. He thinks that no matter what, if i deer comes by it will slow it down enough to make a shot, but at the asme time he makes a lot of noise and spreads his own scent by walking around for 10 minutes before he climbs his tree. I personally have never really had a deer come up and sniff scent that i put out, or go out of their way to smell what i put out. I choose rather to be stealthy and get in my stadn as quietly as possible. However i do like to make mock scrapes or scent drags during heavy rut. Any one agree with me? ranchand99
Re: luck from deer lures? YES!!Not always, but it has worked. There was a spike chasing a doe,but she had gotten out of his sight.I was wondering why the doe had ran in fron of me,because I knew I hadn't spooked her.She never came within 40yds of me,and she left at my 11 o'clock position. He came in bird doggin',and then put his nose up in the air,and came right to my code blue!I was a believer then.I have also had good luck with buckstop 200 proof, and tinks69.I usually don't use tinks that much, because it is the most popular around here.I did have a nice 6pt come in with his head up,and his tail straight out, last year during primitive weapons.I tried some trails end,and had deer, blowing everywhere.I had been up the tree for an hour, and dipped my scent wick into it,then lowered it from my treestand connected to my pull up rope.It wasn't 2 minutes later they started blowing.I never used it again. They don't all work, but sometimes you can get a "magic" bottle. maddhunter
Re: luck from deer lures? I've never had much luck attracting deer with them but have had luck using them to get the deer to stop for a shot.
wtnhunt
Re: luck from deer lures? Have had some success with different scents at the right time. BF rut synthetic seemed to work really well a couple seasons ago, but did not work so well for me last year. Have had some good results from active scrape in a scrape dripper as well. Human urine will also draw their curiousity.
Guest Blaine_Cardilli
Re: luck from deer lures? I think the key is to use season-specific scents and lures at the various stages of the rut. Also, you need to be in a travel corridor or a deers core area for them to work best. If you're just tossing it out there, hard telling when a deer will pick it up. And of course.....H.S. Primetime lures work the best! Ha! -Blaine
Smitteken
Re: luck from deer lures? I have never had a deer so much as slow down when I had scents out. I've tried tinks, the synthetic stuff, w/ or w/o estrous, buck pee, all of it no results. I prefer no scent is the best. Even if a buck does come into it, it is on alert for something, IMO he will see your movement much easier and more likely to jump the string because he is alert. iron buck
Re: luck from deer lures? I also go mostly without any "store bought" deer scents. I have seen deer scents work equally as often as I have seen them send deer on red alert and blast out of an area. No matter If the rut is on or not. I think of them as another marketing victory against us all to gullable hunters LOL. Save your money & scout more. Pick out better stands & watch the wind. Stay clean. Do these things & you'll never miss scents.

PAbowhunter4life
Re: luck from deer lures? I have tried just about everything here in PA, Tink's, Code Blue, Wildlife Research, Hawg Fever Synthetics, and I have very little if any response to them. HOWEVER, one brand that always does what I want it to is Hunters Specialties Premium Doe Estrus Plus. Not sure what's so special about this lure, but if it's out, the bucks take notice
Guest MCDillinois
Re: luck from deer lures? The best lure is being in the right spot at the right time! I have tried a ton of stuff over the years and my results are the same as PAbowhunter4life, very little response, if any. I would love to say that there is magic in deer urine, I just cannot. Perhaps some have had success, I have not. I have seen deer walk right by wicks without even stopping.....The best success I have had is to create a mock scrape with nothing in it at all. Seems like every deer in the planet will stop and investigate in one fashion or another....
SaskMan
Re: luck from deer lures? I honestly can't speak for or against it. I haven't used it enough, maybe once to say for sure. I am just apprehensive about using it and spooking deer, whether it be with the scent or with my scent in the area. I just choose to go about it the old fashioned way, without any scent has worked for me.
TOMSD5
Re: luck from deer lures? i have used tink's mostly...can't really say that's what brought the deer into my area tho....i once baught some elk estrus scent because it's all i could find and had lot's of deer come in and check it out... but as mentioned eariler in the replies the real thing works best.... i try to collect the urine from the bladders of the deer i take.... it works great.... Guest TheDanishDanger
Re: luck from deer lures? i can't remember the name of what i used, i think it was somethin gold, it was the first year i used scent, and i know it got hit at night, there were foot prints and they even knocked over the little sappling it was hangin on, but they never came out when i was hunting. got me some nocturnal bucks i guess.
