Guest TheNumber1Young1
in the woods, lol, normally big bucks dont come out as much as immature bucks, just because they know people are out to get the big ones, hunt in swamps, and thickets,(thats where they will Most likely be), but wait till the rut comes around, and put out some Tinks 69, that increases your chance big time. wtnhunt
Re: big bucks in tennessee There are some pretty decent deer in Tennessee if you are lucky enough to hunt those places where they can be found. Problem is most places like arolund here there are too many people not letting them get big.

Guest tyshe17
Re: big bucks in tennessee that has been my experience in TN...everywhere I hunt where we manage, more 3 1/2 yr old deer are being killed and where we dont manage...thoes deer either never make it or are almost completely nocturnal. Squirrelhunter91
Re: big bucks in tennessee You have to do some scouting. Set out trail cams or just go for walks throughout the day and see what you come across.

Guest CBU93
Re: big bucks in tennessee [ QUOTE ] Its all about QDM (Quality Deer Management) [/ QUOTE ] Well...yes and no. Hard to grow really big bucks when you have about 10 weeks of firearms seasons and very few people willing to take does with very liberal buck allotment and the state pushing for more. QDM is great and I, for one whole heartedly support the efforts, for a healthy herd...also for increasing age classes...but the truely BIG (150+) deer, one has to have better conditions than what the majority of TN has. [/ QUOTE ] Very true. Around here you hear people complain about not being any good deer, but some of those same people will shoot anything they see . Makes it tough to manage a property when the neighboring properties have people shooting all the deer you pass up .

wtnhunt
Re: big bucks in tennessee [ QUOTE ] i've had good luck the past couple of years and people say they didn't believe there were deer that size around here, just wondering if anyone else in tenn has taken some nice deer [/ QUOTE ] A 130 class deer around here is a monster. Think the record for this county was taken from or around the arsenal and it scored around 150 inches. Here are a few I have taken over the years from the backyard. wtnhunt
Re: big bucks in tennessee [ QUOTE ] What counties are you guys hunting??? [/ QUOTE ] Gibson county. Not really noted for being any big bucks in this county, however the arsenal in Milan has some real monsters, and they do allow hunting there again now, but no rifles. The density figures for this county are supposedly kind of low, less than 15 deer per sq mile according to charts I have seen. Really need ot see if I can find a friend to get me in the arsenal to bowhunt or muzzleloader hunt.
christsavedme
Re: big bucks in tennessee We took some pretty good bucks last year aswell. Between four of us we took..... 1- 11 pt, 1- 10pt, 2-9 pt, 3-8 pts, and 1- 7pt. All really nice bucks. Seems we have been seeing more and more good bucks over the years. This years scouting pics have been great too!
Guest CBU93
Re: big bucks in tennessee I have hunted Hardeman, Gibson, Fayette, Stewart, Maury, Hickman, Shelby, and Madison Ctys...There are as I said some good deer here...even an occasional really good deer (I have a buddy that killed one in Stewart that netted 174, and with the broken end of the main beam extrapolated to be symmetrical with the opposite, it would have grossed 196", made the cover of NA Whitetails years ago), I think most people will be dissappointed when the tape is put to the antlers...I firmly beleive the really BIG deer are to the north. I'll say this, I've yet to score on a good buck in TN, but I don't hunt here much either. Good deer are killed every year at LBL, on PI, Oak Ridge, up around Reelfoot, and Catoosa.
