Interesting Find

My sister's are home for my Mom's memorial service and we broke open an old trunk I'd been storing. Lots of interesting letters from my Dad during WWII. Another thing I found was my Grandfather's hunting licence from New Brunswick in 1916. They wintered there before moving west. It gave him the right to kill a bull moose, a bull caribou and two deer and cost $3.00. It looks like he got one deer and one caribou but hung a couple tags up like his grandson and great grandson are still doing almost 90 years later. Lots of letters about the big fire of '19 that burnt this country right out.

Re: Interesting Find

When my grandfather passed away we found a bunch of his letters from WWII also. It was so much fun reading them, and they gave us a closer look at what it was like for him to watch the bombs going off. You can buy a spray that will help preserve the letters for many more generations to come (any shop that has scrapbooking supplies should have the stuff).

Re: Interesting Find

Wow. I love that kind of stuff.

When I went to my dad's to paint he wanted one wall that's had paneling on it for a long time, so I tore off the paneling and got set to paint. There, low on the South side of the wall was a tiny handprint. A handprint that was obviously left by a child that couldn't have been more than 2 or 3 years old. I asked my dad "what's your best recollection of when you paneled that wall." Dad said "oh, about 1971 I guess." Turns out that little handprint was probably left by my muddy little sister who was born in 1969.

I can't tell you how long I looked at that handprint and just thought about my times growing up in that house.

That's what's important in life IMHO. Stop, slow down, think and relish the good times.
