The Fishing today.. I need some advice...

Right now it is 11:04 AM and I am planning on going fishing today. It is almost 90* already and still climbing. Would it be wise to go out fishing today, if it is, what should I use as bait? I have the option of 3 dozen nightcrawlers, two spinner baits, two I-don't-know-what-they-are-calleds ( lol ) and a small rapala lure that looks like a baby brown trout. I would be fishing in a reservoir where there are catfish, huge goldfish, trout and small and largemouth bass. I don't care what I catch. I just want to catch something. Or I have the option of going to our Town Pool which is located on the Hudson River and fishing over there, but I would have to get frozen herrings to fish there. What should I do?

Take all the bait options ( You just never know...)and go to the reservoir!! Any shade there?

And take lots of something to drink. I would rather fish than anything else. Hot or not.

Now I'm jealous!!! mad.gifgrin.gif

There is some shade but not a whole lot. Are you suggesting that the fish will be in the shaded water?

No...but you could be!!! cool.gif Actually, they'll probably be deeper in the water because of the heat. You shoulda been out there at sunrise!!!!

Sunset is good too. Bass will bite better, but the catfish should REALLY bite better then. Don't know if it's legal in your state...but could you catch one of those goldfish and put him on a hook for catfishing?? wink.gif

Where there's big ones, there are probably little ones. Hey, if it's legal....go get some from the pet store!!!! ( I've always wanted to do that...but we can't here in FL) mad.gifgrin.gif

Catfish eat EVERYTHING and yeah, freshwater fish eat other live fish. Bass love live minnows by the way.

Hey .. if they don't have any...you can get along without them. You know how to tie good knots, don't you?

How do I fish at night? I don't have a boat or anything! Do I use a bobbin or when my line is getting pulled on tight I just reel it up?

[/ QUOTE ]

Is there current there? If not, you can throw out a bobber. Of course, at night they are hard to see. ( Unless you buy the glow in the dark ones or the ones with lights in them)

Make sure you have a big hook. Load it up with a couple of BIG crawlers and toss her out. Wait for the bumps...let it nibble on it a sec...then when it is biting on it pretty good, set the hook. Sometimes you gotta give it a short pop, other times all you have to do is reel. The big cats usually just hammer it and take off. If the crawlers don't work, try shiners or minnows.

Hey Joe, like hunting girl said, you can use a glow-in-the-dark bobber.

When I was younger, I'd catch a lot of blue gills just before it was getting dark, cut them into thirds or fourths, depending and how big they were.

Once it got dark, I'd float the cut-bait under a glow bobber. Have a few lines out there, you'll be surprised on how many catfish you can catch. Let them take the bobber under for a few seconds to make sure they take hold really good, I miss a lot of fish before I started doing that.

The big boys will bite at night too. We used to fish a small 4-5 acre pond and caught numerous fish over 10 pounds.

I'd concentrate your efforst near the dam, or in bays off the main lake.

good luck
