Tominator
My wife and I got a day to ourselves Saturday, so here's some observations I made that day: Headed down to Cleveland to catch the Indians, 3:15 start. I took the old way down there, route 2, I 90, exited at E.9th street. Tried to check into the hotel, they won't let us until 4. Did I mention the game starts at 3:15? Parked the van in the Halle building. This building used to be a department store, now it's a parking garage. Lots of pillars to dodge with the grocery getter. Decided to walk to the ballpark which is 3 blocks west, 3 blocks south. Decided to detour a bit and show my wife where I used to work. E. 6th and St. Clair, the recruiting office. The old office is still there, but is now a realty office. Ahhh, the memories. Passed the Federal Reserve Bank. Still impressive in it's pink granite skin. Explained to my wife that the building next to the recruiting office was Dyke College. She didn't believe me--but it's true. BTW--Dyke is no longer in business, or they moved, the building looked vacant. Walked past the Cleveland Board of Education offices. The grounds look about the same as the school's report card--shambles. Public Square is still beautiful. Homeless are still there. I still have spare change. I've lost my street savvy. My wife and I scream COUNTRY. Key tower and BP building are still really tall. Walked past Gund Arena and were immersed in some sort of convention or something. After 10 minutes of wading through the crowd, I mention to my wife "notice anything aboooot this crowd?" She thinks for a sec, and says "no women." Yep, no women. Seems the Promise Keepers are in town. On the mall between Gund and The Jake, Lincoln Mercury has set up camp. We walked right past not really looking at anything. My wife's sugar was getting low, so we headed off to the shade. We have 1/2 hour before the gates open. She gets to feeling better, and says, "I'll bet that OCC Lincoln bike is under that tent. . I say "you really think so? I'm going to check it out." So I did, and yep, the Lincoln bike is there. Wow! Believe me how sad I realize this next line is, but to be honest, seeing that bike may have been the highlight of the weekend, and it probably wouldn't have been, but someone in the crowd asked if they'd start it. So they did, or tried to. The battery was dead. But they had a charger! A minute later that thing jumped to life. Guys, I can't tell you the sound. OMG! I'll say it again: OMG. Unbeeeeeelievable. You have to be there. I should have been watching the dude's throttle hand because he revved it, and made my ears ring. OMG. If you rode that thing for 10 minutes, you'd be deaf. It was extremely cool. No, I did not have my camera. Wife's sugar is really low as they open the gates. We have to be in the line where they check bags because of my wife's purse. There's a rather large man yelling at me that I can come through his line if I have no bag to check, I'm not going to leave my wife the way she's feeling, but she gives me some money and suggests I go get some sugar pop for her, so I do, and the guy says "ahhh, you finally heard me." And I say "I heard you before, I didn't want to leave her dude." I was not happy, he mumbled something, I wandered off. Apparently it's hat day, I got a free hat. Which is cool, because I left my hat in the van. So I get 2 beers, a pretzel, a popcorn and the hi-test pop. $18.00--priceless. Wife's feeling better, we find our seats. It's hot. My wife curses, which is rare and says "my a...--well, this is a family site. That first beer disappeared fast. So did my "wife's." (yes, I drank her beer, sue me) Taking in a little batting practice, watching the Mariners jack balls out. As I'm sitting there, I notice 3 little guys walking down the aisle to my left. At the same time some guy hits a ball and as it comes off the bat I told my wife "that's going to be close, that's going to be close, that's going to be close!" I meant that's going to be close to us, she thought I meant that's going to be close to a home run. Well that ball comes down, SMACK!, hits one of the little guys right on his right thumb. After the shock of it hitting him, the tears fall. I can't tell you how seeing a little one get hurt tears me up. I jumped over the seats in front of me, and got to the little guy. He turned and hugged me. I picked him up and started looking for his parents. Where are this kid's parents? I got all the way up to the top of the aisle, and nobody is claiming this child. How sad is that? Well, finally a medical guy comes to me and says "I'm medical, I saw it happen." So he checks him out, and I'm telling everyone, "this is not my child." Finally his grandma comes up and says "are you OK Nathaniel?" So I hand Nathaniel over. Grandma thanks me. Man, I hate seeing little kids cry and get hurt. I head back down to my seat, and Nathaniel's brothers are looking for something in the aisle. I saw one of the free hats under a seat so I yell to the kid "Nathaniel's hat is right there." Nothing. So I got up and showed them. And I said "are you looking for his hat?" Nothing. So I said "was that your brother?" "yep" I said "did you know he got hit with that ball?" brother says "yep" and I say, "he kinda got hurt." big brother says "yeah, but at least I got the ball." I say "that's the ball that hit your brother?" "yep" shows me the ball, and continues searching. Meanwhile, grandma comes down and I notice Nathaniel has his hat, and they were actually looking for his Sharpie. So I jump down again and search for the Sharpie too. I found it. I was standing up in between two pieces of cement. Physics are sometimes weird. Nathaniel was OK. Little bruise on his thumb, pretty good welt. Grab another beer and a dog. Game hasn't started and I'm inebriated. The Jake is showing its age. Cement is cracking, rust forming on a lot of the metal. The actual game is kind of boring. Father, mother and their 3 girls 23, 21, and 17 (yes, I asked) sit next to us. The whole family is gorgeous. I ask mom if the girls are triplets. (did I mention I'm enibriated?) Mom laughs and says no. The girls could pretty much careless about the game. Dad never looked back once. Watched the game the whole time. Girls chit chatted the whole time, rarely watched the game. One daughter was wearing a LiveStrong bracelet. I didn't have to guts to ask. Plus my wife hates it when I talk to perfect strangers. Game gets so boring in the middle innings my wife actually has to get up to take a walk. Game gets better at the end, and the Tribe wins a thriller in the last few innings. Game over, we head back to the hotel. If you're still reading. Thanks for reading.

Tominator
Re: Miscellaneous Ramblings [ QUOTE ] You did have fun though....right [/ QUOTE ] The trip was supposed to help out my marriage Sherm. I'm not so sure it accomplished that. I think my wife has issues she has to work out. I'm afraid our situation is out of my hands. I'll continue to work at it, and continue with my changes and promises, but she has a lot of work to do I think. It's unfortunate, but there's not much I can do. [ QUOTE ] If you did, I really hope you stayed clear of the Flats. [/ QUOTE ] I suggested Circus Circus Eric, or go a little farther east and hit The Crazy Horse, but for some reason, she just wanted to watch a movie in the hotel room.
