Shutter
started thinking today about all of the stuff that has flown out, been thrown out, dropped, ruined, forgotten, or broken off when on the water. currently the list is holding steady at: --2 cell phones. one time I was so excited for an early morning wade, I jumped right into the water, wallet, cell phone, keys, and everything.. 2nd phone was in my shirt pocket, I leaned over the boat and it slipped right in..made a nice "bloop". --1 work pager.. again, jumped in the water to wade fish not thinking.. didnt miss that one too much.. --1 pair of needle nose pliers. they were on the deck and I kicked them over the front. --2 pairs of sunglasses. One time I jumped in the water for my turn at skiing with them still on my face (forgot about them being there), the other flew off my hat while underway real early in the morning. --1 mighty mite anchor, but actually I recovered it the next time out! noticed the rope floating and pulled it in. --1 leatherman multitool, thew it over the side of the boat rather than the undersized fish in my other hand. --1 mag light while night fishing.. --numerous boxes of animal crackers always forget to put them back in the ice chest. whew.. kind of embarrasing (and expensive).. anyone else loose anything while fishing?? anything BIG like a tiller motor or GPS unit? digital camera? bulldawg
Re: What have you lost overboard? Was trolling along one day when the prop on my trolling motor fell off! Dropped an ice chisel down a hole one day. Lost my ice cleat off of one foot in a hole 2 years ago. Dropped my glasses down an ice hole. Was fishing with a guy in my boat, and he went to cast his $100+ Shimano combo, and let it sail out into the river. Never recovered it. My brother-in-law threw my 18# river anchor with 23' of rope, into 27 feet of water without tying it off. Managed to retrieve that with some crude jigging techniques... (it was that, or he was going swimming ) I lost my cousins anchor in an eddy in the Wolf River 3 years ago. The rope broke off from dry rot. He managed to hook it while ice fishing last winter... , and he did get it up through the hole(Strong Trilene line). I had a speed boat go by me at about 35 mph on a narrow stretch of river one time, and it literally sucked my hat off my head. It sunk before I could get to it. If I would have had about a 5 ounce sinker handy, I would have hurled it at him! I got in a snag one day while shore fishing, and as I pulled hard on it, all of the line guides on my Mitchel rod came off, and went zinging down the line to the snag. I ended up breaking it off, and that just totally ticked me off

[/ QUOTE ] Nope. Dead serious. Long time ago we had a cocker spaniel named Gator who would ride the bow. He musta smelled something or saw something and just bailed off the front while we were running 90 to nothing. The other time my little chihuahua fell off cause it was his first time in the boat and thank God we were sitting still. He hasn't done it since. Missed160
Re: What have you lost overboard? How about a stringer full of Walleyes? FIshing in Canada, 3 of us in a boat, we had a couple fish to go for limits. My brother caught one, took the stringer in, added the fish, then just threw it over.. the side.. Gone in about 2 seconds.. The look on his face was awesome, the mili-second it hit the water he realized it wasn't attached..
VABuckSlayer
Re: What have you lost overboard? I had my prescription glasses blow off my head once. That sucked! I've since had Lasic. I have also fell out the boat once. That was a hilarious sight to see all 6' 2" of me go over the side! Man that was cold!! Eric
leatherneck
Re: What have you lost overboard? I took a dip in the white oak river in North Carolina on winter while duck hunting. My buddy and I were in a kayak about an hours row from the truck. When we were ready to go I lost my footing and flipped the whole boat. two shotguns and me went strait to the bottom. It was only 32 deg. and blowing snow. Not a fun row back!!
fisherguy
Re: What have you lost overboard? Nothing big, just chepo sunglasses...oh and my leatherman once...threw out a marker buoy and went for a swim to get it. It was only in about 8 feet, and the water was pretty warm and clear so it was easy to get. I have wathced people i was guiding lose watches, pliers, glasses, rods, reels, nets, hats, tackle, cameras, and many other things in some pretty creative ways. lol
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: What have you lost overboard? Let's see. Lost a $200 bass rig to a crazy striper that decided to munch down on a spinnerbait. Lost 2 bass out of the livewell going to a tournament weigh in (running 45 - 50 in 4 foot waves). Lost my fishing partner (different trip, but again running fast in rough water). One blacklight while night fishing. Was riding with Roland Martin when he lost a Lowrance X-15 graph in rough water. Same trip, all of the rope trim around the molding on the cap of his boat came off. I'm sure I will think of others.
birddog
Re: What have you lost overboard? I loose more to the water than I care to discuss :-) I honestly loose 5-10 pair of sunglasses a year: I put the da@n things on my hat, for a pic, then I wipe my head and they go flying: 2 years ago I put an "idiot string" on them, so I wouldn't do that....well.....cruising across the lake, and they go flying backwards "idiot string" and all: I have dropped a mag light, car keys....yup car keys, several rods, many lures, and even threw a camera in, just like was proposed earlier...I could have sworn I threw the fish back! You realize what you did about 1 second too late!
hutchies
Re: What have you lost overboard? Fishing knives and last year while wade fishing for trout I found out where a real deep hole is in the Blue river. Chest waders, deep hole, 30 degree water, and 20 MPH wind don't mix. Bad part is my wife had the truck cause she had to run to town to get more lures. I had to wait 45 minutes til she got back from what should have been a 15 minute trip. Guess where she went. Yep boys that right WAL-MART instead of the little store up the road. Oh and the later that same day went to carry my daughter across the stream and we both went in. horst
Re: What have you lost overboard? Sunglasses Wallet pliers 1- tacklebox full of northern/walleye lures valued at probably 300$ 1 brother in law We pulled up to fish this snadbar for the night on the river. There was a little channel that ran in behind it and he had his hip waders on so we told him to jump out and pull the boat up on the shore.Apparently it was a hole that had been scoured out because he jumped in and dissapeared except for his one hand that was still clutching the side of the boat LMAO, I can still see his face when he came back up
HuntingInMaine
Re: What have you lost overboard? [ QUOTE ] Oh, I flipped a canoe in water I didn't have any business in one time .... lost the following: one tent two Coleman lanterns four fishing rods (with reels attached) one buck knife one two-way radio two tackle boxes (slap full of goodies) one Ruger .22lr pistol and ammo and one boatload of pride .... lol [/ QUOTE ] LMAO You win! After reading everyone's posts I don't feel so bad about the couple hats I have lost over board. A friend of mine lost his brand new deep sea fishing pole on a trip. I guess it got tangled up with a bunch of other people's lines because when everyone reeled up to untangle, there was his pole!
