look on the sask website, looks like 2 cases were found around Love, north west of nipiwan, some of the thickest deer ever shot are from that area!! What a shame, they' re looking at another massacre!!They say they' re talking it over with officials and landowners!! All I know is in the forest they will not get a 6000 animal massacre like they did in the sandhills!!I guess its time for all the supposed hunters to grab there guns and go kill for a few weeks, hopefully up there they do not just cut the heads off and take the heads to get more tags!!Just makes me sick to see all the deer get blasted for something that has been around since the beginning of time in my opinion!! What else ticks me off is 95% of the guys who drive for hours to "kill" these deer are the guys who feed them to there dogs, hunt from vehicles, and never grabbed a bow in there life cause it's work!!Its not hunting its killing!!!!! sorry if it upsets someone buts its my opinion!!!!

I agree...I think the MEDIA has blown this CWD issue way out of proportion,,,this disease just didn't pop out of the wood work over night,,,,,I think nature would take care of itself like it has since the beginning of time....What a shame, to use this as an excuse to go on a killing spree for the heck of it.... frown.giffrown.gif

Re: more CWD in sask!!

This is my first post on this site, so I will start off with a hello everybody. I was up fishing in that neck of the woods last week, and the feeling I got was that the landowners weren't going to allow a slaughter to take place. I just have a few questions, why doesn't the government continue testing all the deer and elk taken? That way they can tell how wide spread the problem is. I don't think that wiping out areas of deer is the answer. They tried that in the sandhills and all they did was ruin some of the best mule hunting in the province. If destroying the herd is the answer why is CWD now on the other side of the province? I know deer travel but that seems a little much.

The fishing was fantastic, me and the kids averaged over 70 walleye a day. The biggest was 10 1/2 lbs. I am located in Coronach just north of the Montana border.

Re: more CWD in sask!!

very cool bear!!its really funny couse places like Co have has reported cases since the 70's I believe, still there elk herd thrives and as faras I know they never did the slaughter!! When they find cases in tame elk herds and kill off the herd I knwo they do not find it in every animal, very few as far as I know!! seeing you are from cornach you prob notice the fewer amount of mule deer since they have been havign the huge anterless draws,it is really helping the whitetail population but I have been seeing way less mule that 5 years ago[i knwo the bad winter hurt] but they never came back! In my opinion this is what they are tryign to do, cut back the herd to hopefully stop the supposid spreadign of it!!What really bothers me is that yuppies in the city make the rulings same as they did 10 years or so again when they cleared the antelope up from the south country, sure they say it was a problem in the herd but what it wa swas 4 or 5 years of everyoen gettign 2 doe and a buck tag over the counter and shootign them till they did not existBTW were do you work in coronach?? I am from assiniboia, I seen a bruiser mule not to far north of there last weekend!!got drawn for mule there this year and also got a anterless elk tag down there to!! take care and welcome to Realtree!!!

Re: more CWD in sask!!

You are right on the money sureshot, I figure SERM is after more money, thats why they keep giving all those tags for down here. After that bad winter the population was way down, but the number of tags was not. By the way which bruiser did u see, the non typical that is roaming around down here. I first saw him 2 years ago, he was a double drop tine then, You think I could find him last year when I had a tag, nooo. I saw him after the season though. There is a few nice animals down here, but nothing like there was 4 years ago. I work in the power plant down here.

The government wants to squeeze every nickel it can out of us (like the big game app. "tax", weiner roast tax etc.), but blame the NDP, not SERM.

Check out today's Star Phoenix, the headline says "Gov't Coffers Overflow" and tells of how oil royalties have added an extra $250 million dollars. Then a few pages later I see SaskPower has an ad about it's new rate increase. That's just infuriating! I know this thread is about CWD, but anytime the gov't lifts more money from my wallet, I get pretty upset.
