Guest Sagitarius Posted July 28, 2005 Report Share Posted July 28, 2005 The neighboorhood I live in is a mix of residential and commercial. It is zoned as commercial tho. Most of the buisinesses are run out of homes or are small buisiness buildings. The insurance agent for the company that I happen to have my insurance through (different agent tho) moved into the old locksmith building right across the street. Now here is where the problem is. She erected a sign @ 6x8 that is on a photosensor so it turns on as soon as it gets dark enough and remains on the whole night. The sign is so bright that it shuts off the photoeyes on the street lights. So my wife called last week and asked of they could do anything about it as this thing lights up our living room and more importantly my son's room keeping him awake. That is with the roomdarkening blinds drawn! We were told she would call back as the agent was at a conference. That was las tuesday. So I called today to follow up with her. I explained my issue with the sign and asked if it could be turned off overnight like at 10 pm and then on again at say 6am, seeing how town pretty much shuts down at about 9pm. In so many words I was told that "I have an approved permit and we are zoned commercial" and that I should go get blinds if I didn't like it. Now keep in mind, all the other buisnesses shut off their signs about 9 pm and it causes them no loss of buisiness as was this hags reason for leaving it on all night. So I call the Village Administrator and they tell me that they agree that this is a load of horse**** but it is commercial so they cannot do anything without the town board which meets on the 2nd of Aug. (Guess whos going to be at that meeting!) So I sit there and stew a little more and have an epiphany. Call her district manager. So at this point Iam waiting on a call back from him. Then call for a boycott of the business. I bet that would get there attention. Good Luck at the meeting. Take pictures of the offense and document everything that gets said between you and anybody at the business. If it isn't hurting her business I can't see why she wouldn't shut it off at the same time as everybody else. I guess some people are just jerks!!!!
