Yeah...I got some to fill on a buddies farm down here in Steuben County too. I usually wait until September to start...that way the fawns have lost their spots and are capable of surving on there own if their mama happens to get whacked. I usually try to find a doe without fawns though. It'll be nice to get some fresh venison in the freezer, it's been empty for far too long now cool.gif.

Re: Going deer shooting this weekend

Well,

I didn't get another deer, but I got first dibs on stand locations. My early season stand is in a "T" hedgerow between two bean fields. At the T is a hardwood ridge with a swamp below. There are two corssing trails in the T very close to the stand. Lots of foreground/background cover with good shooting lanes into both fields. Limited shooting lanes twards the woods. The deer trails are quite worn and there is alot of deer sign in the fields.

The late (bow) season stand is about 20yds off the bean fields. There is a point on the ridge the deer come around. They like to stop to see what's beyond the ridge. Looks like a perfect setup.

We even found some trespasser's stand and took it down. Same guy as last year we believe - some folks just don't get it.

I also got the OK to take my 3D target out to the location to practice - from a tree stand. I want to be confidant of my 30-yd shot as there is a break in the hedgerow about 25-yds from the stand.
