snapper
Pro's or con's for this caliber? I just picked up a Win. model 70 ulitmate shadow in the .25 WSSM. To be honest, never even looked at this cartridge before...heard of it, but know nothing about it. Got a good deal on the gun and didn't have one! As soon as I pick up some bases and rings and find a scope...guess I'll look into some ammo. Anyone have any info. on this cal.? Muzzle veocity, tragectory, comparable to other cal. etc...Thanks in advance.
iron buck
Re: .25 WSSM Sounds interesting. You'll have to give us updates on how it shoots. I only have the 22RG250...........otherwise know as the 22-250 Regular guy round LOL. I have seen articles on the super shorts but I have yet to see anyone using them in teh field or at my gun club. AJ
Re: .25 WSSM Ballistically, its the .25-06 but in a very short action. Winchester has a few offerings for deer loads. They have a 110 gr Accubond, 115 Ballistic Tip, and 120 gr Positive Expanding Point. The trajectories will be: distance.....110 gr...115 gr....120 gr 100 yards = +2.0"....+2.0"....+2.0" 150 yards = +2.2"....+2.2"....+2.0" 200 yards = +1.3"....+1.2"....+0.8" 225 yards = +0.3"....+0.2"....-0.2" 250 yards = -0.9"....-1.0"....-2.0" 275 yards = -2.4"....-2.6"....-3.8" 300 yards = -4.3"....-4.5"....-6.2" They all have over 1600 ft/lbs of energy at 200 yards and still have over 1300 ft/lbs of energy at 300 yards. Info on Winchester's web site.
snapper
Re: .25 WSSM Thanks AJ...don't know if I'll use it for a deer load or not yet...although I'm sure it would work great. Seems like a good little cal. Eventually I'll get a scope and sight it in to see how it shoots. Its still new in the box...Basspro had a special on the gun. With my Basspro points and a $10 off coupon...I got the gun out the door for around $421.
Guest ronin
Re: .25 WSSM I just picked up the same rifle for a buddy. Very nice rifle. His main emphasis is varmits, but he will put together a deer load for fall.
ranchand99
Re: .25 WSSM It's a real good caliber.I know you can get bullet weights from 85gr up to 120gr.It's right between a .25-06,and a .270.It's actually 10-30 fps faster than a .270,but due to lighter bullet..energy is around 275 ft lbs less.(130gr .270 vs 115gr .25wssm)So it's flatter shooting, but the animal won't know the difference really.I think you'll really like it.I heard that they don't even kick that bad. That winchester CRF action is real smooth isn't it? Guest ronin
Re: .25 WSSM I was pretty impressed with this gun and yes, the action was super. As a whole, I'm pretty impressed with most of the wssm line-up so far.
robk
Re: .25 WSSM it should be a great round and i wouldn't mind having one. it should prove to be a good fit for you and the 25-06 which it came from is a very popular round so i am surep people like me looking for a flat shooting round would definatley take a look at them in a hurry. i have another mauser action so i may try to see if i can build one off the turkish mauser., ought to be a hoot to try and build man rob k
ZooBear
Re: .25 WSSM The rumer at Scheels is they are going to drop it from production. Thats why the stores are marking them down. Sales have not been very good on this round.
iron buck
Re: .25 WSSM They can decide that so quickly? Seems that I have just read about this round for a few months. Hardly long enough for the general public to learn about a round. It may be so..........but if the manufactures take that approach pretty soon we'll only have 243s, 270s & 30-06s to pick from. It wasn't just the .25 wssm that was on sale...it was the gun offered in many different cal. I would tend to think that Basspro bought alot of these Winchester 70 guns so they could sell them cheap and drum up business! They may even have taken a loss on some figuring they would make it up in other sales before you leave the store.
ranchand99
Re: .25 WSSM Yeah they aren't going to drop the 300wsm or 270wsm for a long time I'm sure.I got the sales paper too,and it was just a big sale, they'll be around Forever just like the 16ga. Just kiddin'
pa_sportsman
Re: .25 WSSM I believe that Winchester dropped the Ultimate Shadow with black synthetic stock for 2005. If I remember correctly, the current online catalog lists the Ultimate Shadow with camouflage synthetic stock in several calibers, but no black stock available.
