What size holes would you cut?

I am errecting 3 or 4 ground blinds this next 3 days off.

I will be using a "1/2 pallet" provided by VermontHunter that he got for free threw some shady source. LOL (He must have a 100 of these things...)

They are basically no more then several 1x6s and 1x8s nailed to 2 cross pieces. No spaces inbetween the boards.

The size is roughly 4'x4'.

I plan to make 5 or 6 sided blinds but was wondering what sized window holes should I cut out for archery?

Both compounds and traditional bows will be used and maybe rifles.

Tall and narrow, short and wide, large squares...???

I am thinking tall and narrow, kinda like the DullBull windows.

What would you cut?

BTW these will be open air or no roof blinds, build in long grass, or bunches of small trees, pines, etc.

Thanks!

Re: What size holes would you cut?

Is there any way you could set up these pallets so that the "Holes" between them would be where your shots would be coming from?

Then you could just cut smaller size holes simply for viewing and attach the different pallets together with another board at the top and bottom. They would look like a "W" thats spread out and the middle almost flattened...the gaps between the pallets where the points of the "W" are.

That way the spaces inbetween would be for archery and the holes for rifle! wink.gif

Re: What size holes would you cut?

If it were me I'd take one and experiment with it, set up a 3-d target if you have one and stand a pallet up about 30yrds from it and sit behind it with different hole sizes cut in it and see how good you see your sights on the target through the hole. I've noticed in my Ameristep blind the first time I drew on a deer I thought I had the windows open enough but to my surprize there was alot of difference between looking through them and shooting through them. When I was backed away from the window it was alot smaller and I couldn't see enough of the deer at close range to make a good judgement on the vitals. And also had to move to much while drawn when the deer would move.

In my opinion I would say that wider would be better than taller. That's how I open my windows on my blind now so I can move my bow only and not my whole body. And make sure they are tall enough for the distance you want to shoot, 1 or 2 inches in highth may make the difference in a 30 or 40 yard shot.

And that folks is my 2 cents laugh.giflaugh.gif
