i was thinking about getting a new gun and i think im going to get a .25-06. i was wondering what the recoil ws like on this round? i have a .270 right now so is it similar to around that range of recoil? i was going to get it in the remington 700 in the heavy barrel so i think that would reduce recoil to wouldnt it?

thanks.

I went from a .30-06 or a .25-06 and there is a noticable difference. I can shoot an entire box out of the ..25-06 and have no shoulder pain. After a couple shots with the .30-06 I can start to feel a little pain in the shoulder. A great shooting caliber--with a heck of a punch and very little recoil.

Re: .25-06 recoil?

Way less than a 270.I shot my friends Savage 25-06,recoil was so weak I didn't close my eyes, and actually saw the fire coming out the barrel, while I was looking through the scope. It didn't kick hardly at all. You'll be please.Oh,that was a wood stocked gun,I'm not sure how it would be in a synthetic.

Re: .25-06 recoil?

As a varmint gun, the .25-06 has a lot of recoil. Compared to the various .22 and .24 caliber guns, it kicks a lot. Compared to other deer cartridges that are based on the .30-06, its a pussycat. Another cartridge with similar performance and even less recoil is the .257 Roberts.

I have a 25-06 in a Rem 700 ADL synthetic with a sporter barrel and it doesn't kick bad at all. If you go with a heavy barrel I would think would be real easy on the shoulder.

It isn't much different than my 243 in the same style of rifle.

Re: .25-06 recoil?

The 25-06 is a fantastic, light recoiling deer round with LOTS of reach.........and punch. My daughter used my Ruger No1 single shot last year to take this nice doe . At the time she was 13 & she had no fears what so ever about shooting the rifle. I had her use it at the range for over 100 rounds before we went out hunting. She never developed any hint of a flinch.
