I'm with redbeard. Whichever call the particular gobbling your working likes the best at the time. That's why I carry a vest full of calls when I'm turkey hunting. I've had more success with different kinds of slate calls but I've killed gobblers with diahram calls, box calls and gobbler calls too.

Tuff question? Each of us has our personal favorites. Some like mouth calls, some like Box calls, some like "pot" type of calls. Bottom line, make sure that you can work whatever call you choose as close to perfection, and you'll do fine.

All of em I use em all sometimes on the same turkey Slate is easy to use box is loud mouth call is subtle wingbone is loud mostly use the wingbone for locating but the box workes great to.

Not very good with a tube call but practicing thats what it takes is lotsa practice lots of practice.

Re: whats the best type of call?

I mainly make box calls. I've been making them for several years and have talked with countless custom calls makers in order to improve my design. I start off with rough stock and go from there. Here's a couple of calls that I completed fairly recently. PICT0072a.jpgPICT0031a.jpg

I'm working on several right now...actually I have 5 that I need to finish that I've already promised out. smile.gif
