AJ
Re: whats the best type of gun for younsters /adults Sure, the .243 Win will kill any deer alive when the proper bullet is used. It also makes a great varmint gun when it is fed the lighter bullets. I have a couple of them and I don't feel undergunned at all for deer. It has very light recoil, more than enough energy, and has a lot of good bullets available to do the job.

ranchand99
Re: whats the best type of gun for younsters /adults They are great little guns, and don't get as much credit as they deserve.Personally 243 is the lowest caliber I'd use.Smaller than that, and you'll have to start aiming at the head or neck, just to make sure. too_pointer
Re: whats the best type of gun for younsters /adults AJ, do you handload your .243 for deer, or use factory ammo ? Mike
AJ
Re: whats the best type of gun for younsters /adults When I have time, I handload. I use the 85 gr Nosler Partition in my 15" Encore chambered in .243 Win. I use the 100 gr Hornady Spire Point in my Remington Model 7. If I don't have time to handload for it, I use another gun. It shoots factory ammo ok, but not great.

Squirrelhunter91
Re: whats the best type of gun for younsters /adul .243 Win is a great caliber! Flat shooting and not a lot of recoil!
Guest bexar_county89
Re: whats the best type of gun for younsters /adul As too your question about the "best" type, thats like asking what kinda shoe is best for everyone, i think (my opinion) that everyone is different hence the different guns
Shaun_300
Re: whats the best type of gun for younsters /adul Since I do a lot of brush hunting, and hunting in pretty thick woods. I reccomend a .308 Win for a youth hunter. But if I was hunting in open field, a .243 would work good as well!
