Ohiobucks
I was on the way home and came through a small town near home. I stopped at the store for some gas and a 6 pack. When I came to a state route intersection just out of town, I came to a stop. Looked to the west and a semi truck was coming. Well, there was a car coming to the intersection toward me that didn't stop. The truck never even had a chance to react. The collision sounded like a bomb going off, it was deafening loud. The semi practically drove through the car and ended up jack-knifed on the state route a 100 yards down. I got on my cell phone to call 911, and the call didn't go through for some reason. I called my wife at home and had her call 911 while I stayed on the line. She described to the dispatcher what I saw, and the squad and law was on the way ASAP. While I was on the phone with her and the dispatcher, I ran over to check on the woman driving the car. The airbags had went off obviously. She was DOA, probably never saw it coming. The whole front end of her car was gone, the engine was in pieces all over the road. Not a good sight to see. I am just glad there were no others in the car with her, cause I don't think anyone would have survived that one. Parts of her car and/or the semi truck hit the front of my car while I was stopped at the intersection, it was just that close. I have had this empty feeling all night long. That is something that will stick with me for some time to come I think....... Really got me thinking how precious life is, and how quick it can be taken away...........just like that. Prayers go out to that womans family, whoever they may be. May she rest in peace........

Nut
Re: Witness to a fatal accident tonight....... This is a traumatic experience you had. Share your thoughts with the wife and your friends. I came up to a intersection on my way to work a few weeks ago. A truck had collided with a UPS truck. The truck was familar because it was the new kid that had started work 6 days before. Only 18 .... It made us very thoughtful on what could happen. It was even tougher since 4 days before that another coworker fell under a bush hog and lost his life also. So hang in there Tom

Tominator
Re: Witness to a fatal accident tonight....... I PM'd Tom my thoughts when he PM'd me. Tom stopped over to get some corn and drop off his old trail cam and a kisser button for my bow. Sure does make you think. What happens if Tom doesn't stop over? What happens if I'm there when Tom stops over (I was at football practice with my son), what if Tom doesn't stop for that 6? The list goes on and on. Life sure is funny sometimes. I don't want to diminish the pain that family is going through, and it hurts me that my buddy Tom is shook up. Just makes you think. Philosophers could postulate on this one for a long time. I told Tom that this incident just deapens my belief that we all have a purpose here, and when the purpose is over, we're called to another life. Be ye prepared. MichiganHuntr1
Re: Witness to a fatal accident tonight....... Well Said Chris... Tom, Im sorry to hear that. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and the family involved tonight. I had 2 Experiences kinda like yours tonight, and they still bring tears to my eyes. I was riding down the road one day, it was snowing, and the roads were slick. This older lady went flying past me, and as she got past me and went down the road, she started turning, she went head on into a little ford truck. I stopped, ran, and tryed helping them, but they were both dead. I didnt know what to do, and I cried so hard after that. My current girlfriend had gotten in a wreck with her mom a couple of years back, and I happened to drive up on it when it happened. I ran up, her mom was knocked out, and the guy in the car was as well. Chelsea was in the ditch, in water, and I pulled her out and gave her CPR. (I was glad I learned that in health class). Everyone lived, and shortly after that, Chelsea and I became boyfriend and girlfriend. Its been almost 2 years now, I was just glad I was driving by that day. browning_gold_12
Re: Witness to a fatal accident tonight....... ohiobucks, man i really hate you had to be a part of that. being a full time firefighter/emt, i deal with this on a fairly regular basis. dont hold in what you are feeling. talk to someone, friends, family, pastor or email me at [email protected]. if this continues to wear on you, there are professionals to help with it. contact your local fire, police, or ems service ,and they can put you in touch with a critical incident stress network. sounds corny i know, but they can help. a couple of years ago i was about to take on the task of cutting a 10 year old boy from the wreckage of a vehicle. this kid was a friend of the family. our dept. chaplain walked up and put his hand on my shoulder, stood there for a minute then walked on. no words said at all, but his actions felt like they moved a mountain. will say a prayer for you. christsavedme
Re: Witness to a fatal accident tonight....... Man sorry you had to see such a tragic event. I know how those things can way on you and if you don't talk about them and just bottle them up they can get to you! I have worked a long time in the Fire and EMS and until this day those calls still get to me. You never realize just how precious life is until something so tragic brings it all into perspective. LifeNRA
Re: Witness to a fatal accident tonight....... Running as an EMT for nine years on an abulance unit, I have seen too much for myself. I know the feeling very well, when you try all that you can do to save a life and it doesnt work out. I have many faces with me that I still carry around. As they say time heals all wounds. Ohiobucks
Re: Witness to a fatal accident tonight....... On behalf of me and on behalf of that womans family, THANKS for all the kind words everyone. It is her family that has lost a loved one, they are who I am praying for. I will be fine, you know, just something nobody really wants to see happen. I gave my wife a big, long hug when I got home last night. Gave the kids an extra one before they went to bed. It is amazing to me how fast everything can be taken away. The truck driver was fine, he was pretty shaken up. I truly believe he never had a chance to react. The intersection is kind of blind coming from her direction, but there is a stop sign. Everyone, be extra careful out there behind the wheel. It is so easy to become distracted with a cell phone, music, conversation, or just the monotony of a short drive to your local store. Be aware and be safe.
