ilhnter
The landowner in which i hunt on in Illinois showed me a magazine in which he subscribes. I don't recall the name of it, but it was a farmers magazine. It stated from this year on Illinois is raising its nonresident bowhunting permits $25 until the total reaches $600. It will take many years for it to reach 600, but i do believe many people will stop paying to hunt Illinois. The landowner was very upset because this doesn't help him out at all. My dad and brother and I hunt on his little farm, so if we stop getting permits he loses his hunters and is over run by deer. He is upset about it and i think it is crazy to charge that amount, but just my opinion.
NYBUCK
Re: Bad news for Illinois nonresident bowhunters This year our permit went up $100. This will probablly be the last time that I hunt Illinois for a while.
MUDRUNNER
Re: Bad news for Illinois nonresident bowhunters I hate to say it,but the politicians are going to ruin Illinois deer hunting. It's all about the mighty dollar nowadays.I've heard several people say this would be their last year to hunt in Illinois. This year they are doing away with check stations, and going to an online or phone in check in deal, all to save the state about 500 grand. We'll see how that works out,but I don't see how that can do anything but hurt the sport. I have a feeling most of this new legislation is made by non-hunters that simply see dollar signs.
David_218
Re: Bad news for Illinois nonresident bowhunters I am certain, with the price of Gasoline and equipment used for hunting, along with the increase in Licenses Fees; this will HURT Illinois and many States. Kentucky increased it's Deer permits from $25 to $50 for nonresidents starting this fall. All these states complain about having too many Deer and not enough hunters never once consider the possibility they JUST MIGHT be pricing themselves out of business. [/ QUOTE ] Got that right. Had it not been for the graciousness of fellow forum members and LLBUX, I would never have been able to hunt Illinois last year. Getting tags was a nightmare too. Illinois is pricing and aggravating hunters right out of their state IMHO.
LLBUX
Re: Bad news for Illinois nonresident bowhunters As it sits now under current law. 2005 tags-$325 2006 tags-$375 2007 tags-$425 Add NR license, habitat stamp and handling for an extra $50 for 5 days. The tag system went much smoother this year. A minimum of 20,000 tags were allowed. All applicants drew tags. About 19,000 applied. Doe tags at $25 are available over the counter this fall. (Plus license and stamp) Good luck all- LLBUX

maytom
Re: Bad news for Illinois nonresident bowhunters Face it, Illinois is the home to some very impressive whitetails!! Many "out-of-staters" travel there each year just to try for a monster!! I don't think the price increase will stop people from hunting there, it may drop the actual number of hunters that go though. LLBUX
Re: Bad news for Illinois nonresident bowhunters The $600 deer tag is a myth and should be treated as such, not as a fact. Someone took a comment and accepted it as fact. The real facts are as I posted above. $325-$375 and $425 over the next three years. There is no current legislation pending or proposed that will raise tags above the numbers listed above. Tominator- As my wife is sick I gave up outfitting and my deer lease. I have sold a few hunts for a cousin and will be hunting his farms this fall. I'll speak with him about allowing some doe hunters. Good luck! Guest cornbread
Re: Bad news for Illinois nonresident bowhunters I have hunted Illinois for the past 4 years and will continue to even if the cost goes up to $600. I see more deer in a week in Illinois than I see all year in Georgia. Also Big bucks are a whole lot more common than in my home state. Last year we caught the rut just right and I have never seen action like that before, im talking big buck chasing does all over the place. I will be back again this year november 4-11. Dont knock it untill you try it, Im hooked for life. It is well worth the money that i pay.

David_218
Re: Bad news for Illinois nonresident bowhunters With all the problem of Drought, in Illinois, I am expecting Deer hunting to be not as productive as the last few years. The Deer will be spread out more to find food. This upcomming season is NOT the best year to "Blow away" your $600.
ksdeerhunter03
Re: Bad news for Illinois nonresident bowhunters I dont know why calling someone an idiot for paying $600 to hunt Illinois is called for. I hunt Kansas, out of state tags are 325ish there, and they recieve 10,000 more applicants than they give out tags. I bet they could raise it to 600 and people would pay it. That doesnt make them idiots. I hate that hunting is going to the politicians, but we live in the best country in the world where we have the rights to hunt, lets remember that. go kill em.... [/ QUOTE ] Sadly ksdeerhunters right, its not gonna affect the number of people who go there to hunt every year.Iowas a prime example of that.Everyone figured the huge increase in NR tag prices here would cut back the number of NR hunters who came here every year, we still have more applicants then we do tags available. All these tag increases do is lower the number of applicants, and make the odds of drawing a little better for those that can afford to apply.Sadly it also excludes lower income families from having the oppurtunity to hunt ot of state and takes hunting a little closer every year to being a sport for the wealthy.I wouldnt pay 600$ anywhere to kill a deer but theres plenty out there that can and will pay that much to take up the slack

Guest 1TarheelHunter
Re: Bad news for Illinois nonresident bowhunters As I see it 19000 permits @ $325.00 each =$6,175,000.00. This does not include doe tags, gun permits or anything else. How much more do you think they'll need from us before their happy.

Stinger-Hunter
Re: Bad news for Illinois nonresident bowhunters Guys, I live in Illinois and there are too many liberal anti gun, anti hunting politicians in the state. They don't care about the money from hunting, they are trying to put hunting out of commission all together. I live here. The effort is enormous to outlaw everything to do with guns, hunting, etc. Even the Mayor of Chicago is trying to outlaw shotguns. The governor lives a block away and I flip his house off every time I pass it for his anti hunting ultra liberal policies. You wouldn't believe the shenanegans going on in this state
