Jeramie
After reading the other post about the speeding ticket, how many tickets have you had? Ive had one roughly 4-5 years ago. I was traveling down an unmarked road at 65mph. I honestly thought it was 55. The only speed limit sign was literally 8-9 miles away from the area I was traveling. I passed a highway patrol. I saw him whip into a drive and a few cars behind me kept him from pulling out immediately. I knew he was after me but I kept on. Stupid? Yep. I actually slowed to what I thought was the speed limit and kept on. He didnt have on lights and such so I wasnt admiting to anything. About 4-5 miles down the road and after a left hand turn he finally caught up with me. The road was narrow with no shoulders so I slowed, turned on my blinker and drove 1/2 mile to the next drive. He got out of his car mad as a hornet. He started yelling about my not stopping at his lights. I told him I had the right to drive the 1/2 mile to where it was safe to pull over. He told me to "Read my Hand Book! Youre suppose to pull over as soon as you see the lights!" Not very bright. I told him to read his. It states that you pull over where you feel safe and pulling over the in the middle of the road isnt safe. He literally put his hand on his gun. I asked if he was going to shoot me and he got REALLY mad. He came back with a ticket and I started groveling. He told me to "Just sign the ticket." That Made me MAD. I told him, "You work for us Pal. I happen to sign my name really slow. It sometimes can take a while." He was furious, I loved it. He started mouthing so I told him I would be more then glad to call the local County Sheriff and have him run by to whitness this guy's attitude. He literally shut up on the spot. About a month later he pulled over a guy named Tommy from our town. Tommy is worth millions. Tommy stepped from his car and threw a butt on the ground and stomped it out. This trooper wrote Tommy a barage of tickets for the butt. Granted tommy shouldnt have thrown it on the ground but it was a little over the top. Tommy told him that he would never work around here again. I dont know how successful he was but ive never heard of anyone being pulled over by this guy again and I know the woman who files the tickets! Im guessing Tommy made a few phone calls.... HuntingInMaine
Re: Speaking of Court..... I have gotten two tickets and about 7 warnings for not having my car inspected. It's nothing I do on purpose, but every year I forget to have it inspected. Most of the time they just give me a card to keep in my window that gives me a week to get it done. The first ticket I got was christmas eve for the same infraction and then a month later from the same cop for the same thing (can't really complain about the second one, but the christmas eve one bothered me...guess he wasn't happy about working that day! Thank God he didn't remember me the second time, I think he could have had me towed! LOL) I find it is always best to not speak unless spoken to and a smile doesn't hurt either! (but my other half says it is just because I am female... )

Tominator
Re: Speaking of Court..... 3 tickets and one warning. First ticket was in Elko Nevada. I had graduated from my "A" school in Petaluma California on December 21st and had to drive all the way to Elyria, Ohio to make it back for Christmas. Well, it was about 11:30 at night, back then the national speed limit was 55 (1984), and I was cruising along at 65 when I got pulled over. The trooper came up, I gave him my military ID and my license. I was in my dress blues and he says "you going home on leave son?" and I said "yes sir I was just heading down to that little town to get a room for the night." And he went back to the cruiser. A few minutes later he came back with a ticket and says "Well, in the state of Nevada we have something called a 'waste of a resource ticket', you were speeding and thus wasting a resource, so I'll give you this instead of the speeding ticket you deserve, this only costs $45, and you can mail it, yaddda yaddda, yadda." So that was my first ticket. The other 2 were plain ol' speeding tickets. I deserved all 3 and have been extremely lucky to only have 3. [/ QUOTE ] HuntingInMaine I believe you and your other half are both right. It doesn't hurt to be friendly, honest, and have some grey hair either. I can't remember the last time I got a speeding ticket or the number I've gotten over my lifetime. Got more before I was 25 than after. I have gotten a couple of warnings over the past 3 or 4 years but it's been over 15 years since I got a speeding ticket. The older I get, the less I'm inclined to be in a hurry. Besides the difference in speeding and not isn't going to save you much time unless you're driving more than a couple of hours or so. texastrophies
Re: Speaking of Court..... Don't remember the actual dates, but I got my first speeding ticket 3 days after getting my license. I was following my sister, and a state trooper pulled us both over and gave both of us tickets. That was the first one. I have had quite a few since then, too. Probably average 1 every 2 - 3 years. Most have been taken care of with defensive driving, although the last one I got I was not able to take DD,not enough time had passed, so I went to court and got deferred adjudication. The fine was about the same amount, but it, like with the DD, keeps it off of your driving record.

hutchies
Re: Speaking of Court..... 2 Tickets, Alot of warnings. It seems they always pull me over for little stuff like tag light out. I told one cop that I had just bought the light to replace and he went to his car and got a screwdriver and made me replace it there on the side of the street. I am kinned to a highway patrol around here and he has let me off 3 times.
JimT
Re: Speaking of Court..... No speeding tickets, one no sticker, one running a red {it was orange!} light, and one not having a front plate on my jeep. That cop was a real jerk. Trying to impress a rookie that was with him. The sticker one was pretty funny. I got pulled over for it, and the cop asked me why it was not inspected. I told him I bought a new atv instead of fixing up my car. He laughed and let me go, but he caught me again a couple weeks later but this time gave me a ticket. We both just laughed about it. I actually did not mind paying that one..I deserved it. Thats all for me.

That is where you go to court, pay the court cost, promise to be a good boy and not get anymore tickets for a specific time frame (6 months was mine) and then the ticket is dismissed. If you do get another ticket during that time frame, you then have to pay both tickets. Not available at all locations. This one was for the city of Houston. preacherman
Re: Speaking of Court..... some troopers are good troopers, others are just idiots! about 8 years ago i was on my way to work one morning, driving the speed limit, and had about 4 pass me like a bat out of hades! I finally got to the next town and found out why they were speeding. they were late for formation.
Shaun_300
Re: Speaking of Court..... I've got one warning for going 80 in a 50 (KPH)... so 50mph in a 30mph zone. Supposedly I did a running stop in the same insident as well. I was driving my dad's 2003 Chrysler 300M Special. She said "Stop showing off in your dad's car!!" Yes it was a woman cop, i had just got my G2 (stage 2 of 3 license in Ontario) I am one lucky guy, because not usually do cops let you off with a G2, let alone a woman cop! The OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) are pretty good I must admit, compared to the cops down in the states. I travel the Trans-Canada highway everyday back and forth to work. The speed limit is 90kph (55mph) and I always drive around 120kph (75mph). Police cars have had the radar on me plenty of times and have never pulled me over. You usually have to be doing over 30kph (20mph) over the speed limit before a cop will pull you over. In this area anyways. You can always get away with 20 over. Gosh I'll have to set my cruise control if I ever drive down to the states....

Nick
Re: Speaking of Court..... Ive been pulled over 3 times and received one ticket. 1st time: I was heading up north bow hunting after work. I got about 10 miles from camp and it was about 12:30am and a steady rain. I was actually going the speed limit which was 55mph because I was hydroplaning a little bit. I had a smaller car running up my tailpipe and had a truck passing me heading the opposite direction at about the point he "radared" my vehicle. I look in my rear view and see the flashers going around the small car behind me and he pulls me over!!!! I was HOT!!! He tried telling me I was going 73mph, and being tired and ticked off I argued with him. He wrote me a citation and says "i only wrong you for 63 in a 55 instead of 73 in a 55" and I says, "oh gee, thank you so much, you only wrote me for 8 miles over what i was actually going instead of 18". And he says "you know your not a very good liar..." andi replied, "I know, thats because im not a liar" and rolled up the window. I showed up at court, he didnt, so the ticket was thrown out....no fine and no points! 2nd time: I just got my new truck (2003 silverado 2500HD ext. cab 4X4) and the previous owner had 285 tires on it, instead of the 245 stock tires. One thing I didnt realize was that he didnt reprogram the speedometer for the bigger tires. So I was going what my speedometer said was 65mph in a 55 heading home from work. I see the lights and pull over. The cop questions me about the speed and everything then asks hoe somebody my age could afford such a nice truck. I played it cool and was friendly. Just before he went to his cruiser to look up my file and stuff he says "are them stock tires?" and i says "no, their 2 sizes bigger" and he says "ok". He comes back 5 minutes later and says " your all set, just watch your speed" So no ticket. 3rd time: I had my truck lifted 6" with 35" tires and the speedometer programmed.I was going the speed limit through the busiest town in the city when one pulls me over. He says " you look like your sitting pretty high there, Im going to measure your bumpers. I said go ahead. So this clown gets his tape out and takes double and triple measurements on everything and comes back and says "yup, the bottom of your rear bumper is 30 1/4" and the limit is 30". He prints off a sheet in his cruiser on the laws on lifting your truck and gives it to me. He says "here, read this......but your close enough to the maximum that im not going to write you a ticket". I got home, got out the tape and I was actually only 29 1/2". I think he just wanted to look like he had a case.

[/ QUOTE ] Ooohhhh, the defensive driving is an 6 hour driver safety course that you can take once a year to wipeout a speeding ticket. I assumed it was a nation wide thing. They have it now where you can go get a video and do it at home or do it online or the old fashion way of going to a class.
VtBowhunter
Re: Speaking of Court..... Are we talkin' driving tickets ot D.O.T. infractions, lol. I've had about 5 speeding tickets, and fought a couple successfully. The last one I attempted to fight was from Nelson Tift....he's a local constable that writes the most tickets every year in Vermont. He claimed that I was doing 62 in a 45 in a Tractor Trailer fully loaded going up a mountain. I went to court but the judge had no idea about governors and the impossibilty of speeding up a mountain in those trucks so I lost. I have one more pending for court......the speed limit has always been 50 on this road.......well they changed the limit to 45 but only took down the old signs and never put up news ones until a week after I got the ticket......I have pictures where they nailed the signs to trees temporarily and then went back the week after that and put them where they belong. I don't forsee a problem beating this one. Just yesterday I was pulled over for speeding on the road I live on. Seems they just changed the limit there from 35 to 25, and I never noticed. When the deputy told me it was 25 I turned and said "Where....THERE?" pointing to where I had come from. She said yes and I said since when. She told me they changed it 2 months ago. I told her I'ld been liveing there for 7 years and never noticed the change. She let me off with a written warning and her # written on the bottom of it. Think I should call her?
