bigfoot22
I was informed this week the owner of the farm I hunt on will be cutting off all the timber soon.He said they had up to three years to do it.I hope it's not this year.Does anybody know what effects this will have on hunting?Less deer,More deer.Anybody been through this and came out to the good?He said they would'nt be reseeding it either. fisherguy
Re: Stripping the woods well if there is no cover nearby there will be no deer. If there is still cover nearby you will likely see deer feeding on the leftover limbs and such shortly after the cutting is done, and then browsing heavily on the natural regrowth in 2-5 years. dg
Re: Stripping the woods Probably won't help this year. But next year should make it nice. You'll just have to adjust and maybe use a ground blind if you are used to climbing a tree. If it's gradually done, you may be allright. It really brings in alot of growth at the deer's browse level. Tominator
Re: Stripping the woods Well, if all the timber goes, that will be a challenging spot to hunt. If they only take some of it, I'd say your area will improve. Deer love edge habitat. One year on our lease they clear cut about a 20 acre pocket that was surrounded by hundreds of acres of timber. The following year that clear cut had grown up and the deer were using it for browse and bedding area.
