NY_Bowhunter14
From what I have heard and understood... Any kind of gun that is over 50 caliber is considered illegal... so those of you that are like me and have a 12 guage shotgun w/ a rifled barrel are hunting illegally... also apparently people are coming around from the state and are collecting aqll guns over 50 caliber, and they are only giving you 100 dollars for it... so hide those guns till hunting season... VTbowman
Re: New New York State Law Is a 12 gauge shot gun or slug gun considered a "caliber" or "gauge? That just dont seem right...??? I know it will effect a .54 caliber ML though which is said... What caused this law?
tedicast
Re: New New York State Law [ QUOTE ] What caused this law? [/ QUOTE ] My guess is the so called .50 caliber "sniper rifle" that we all own!
VTbowman
Re: New New York State Law Seems weird that a state with a huge part of it shot gun only would pass a law that makes that sized projectile illegal. Are you sure your reading it right? Can you post a link to the law or article? If its true then sorry NY....
Squirrelhunter91
Re: New New York State Law I've never heard of that. Last I heard, they were trying to outlaw anything bigger than .50 cal, but the bill got shot down.
horst
Re: New New York State Law I just looked around a little and unless something changed since the articals i read were written it would indeed include the 12 gauge with rifled barrel. It included a lot of other rifles but my personal favorite was it would ban the .50 caliber Sharps I thought that was just classified as an antique

Squirrelhunter91
Re: New New York State Law cutter10x, the straightwall cartridge law bigger than .50 cal has always been around. So technically the Barret .50 cal is still legal, I guess?

horst
Re: New New York State Law [ QUOTE ] so, can I use my 12 guage this year or not? We are still looking for that link? [/ QUOTE ] Ross, I looked at the actual bill the other night and still have no idea, i couldnt find a list of weapons this would affect. The only place i found the rifled 12 gauge slug barrel and .50 caliber Sharps mentioned were in articals by groups like the NRA and other shooting websights The way the bills worded it could potentially cover quite a few guns but I dont really know if it does or not, it pretty vauge Artical here Bill here According to another forum which I cant find anymore its some sort of law in NY that when you put the rifled barrel on the 12 gauge it is considered a centerfire rifle by some very loose interpretation of another law
Turkeygirl
Re: New New York State Law Just another way for animal rights activists to get hunting outlawed.......or for the governor of NY to go out with a bang.... rossman
Re: New New York State Law Here the law states, " 1 24. "50-CALIBER WEAPON" MEANS A RIFLE CAPABLE OF FIRING A CENTER-FIRE 2 CARTRIDGE IN 50-CALIBER OR LARGER, .50 BMG CALIBER OR LARGER, ANY OTHER 3 VARIANT OF 50-CALIBER OR LARGER, OR ANY OTHER METRIC EQUIVALENT OF SUCH 4 CALIBER, PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT NOTHING IN THIS SUBDIVISION SHALL BE 5 CONSTRUED TO INCLUDE ANY MUZZLE LOADING RIFLE WHICH IS DESIGNED TO USE 6 BLACK POWDER, OR A BLACK POWDER SUBSTITUTE, AND WHICH CANNOT USE FIXED 7 AMMUNITION.". To me, this will include shotguns also. A 12 guage shotgun is a centerfire cartridge with a higher than 50 caliber. This sucks. If this is the case, I hope they allow rifles. Because I will have to buy a 20 guage with a rifled barrel. Or, just move to Colorado. Where our rights matter. New York is becoming a breeding ground for liberals. and it is too bad. New York has great opportunities for hunting and fishing. That is why we need to band together to drive liberalism and all that comes with it out!!!!! horst
Re: New New York State Law Basically if they get this passed and dont define it better they will effectively outlaw deer gun hunting in the state wont they?Or are rifles allowed there? Turkeygirl
Re: New New York State Law I remember now that in a recent Outdoor Life magazine issue a small article about some new bill trying to be passed that due to its "wording" would outlaw deer hunting. Since the DEC has nothing like this on its website, this stuff it all way out of hand. Who is coming up with these bills anyway?????????? Adjam5
Re: New New York State Law With that rash of drive by Barrett.50 shootings, they had to do something Its only a matter of time before they come for all the semi autos, wording it so it means EVERY gun in the world. A bunch of feel good legislation by do nothing legislators. Cheap sensationalists. Did anyone see that letter that Ronnie Barrett of Barrett firearms sent to the LAPD? He said that since CALI-fornia has banned the weapons he manufactures, LAPD must find some other place to buy/service/repair their Barrett firearms. They better hope they never break those guns...who'll fix'em?
rossman
Re: New New York State Law Here is the reason why the liberals think this law needs to be passed, "Section 1. Legislative findings and declaration. The legislature here- by finds and declares that 50-caliber or larger weapons having the capacity for rapidly discharging ammunition have no acceptable purpose. The legislature additionally finds and declares that such weapons pose such an imminent threat and danger to the safety and security of the people of this state that it is necessary to ban the possession and use of such weapons." This is obviously a post 9/11 bill. They are worried about terrorists and what they could do with such a weapon. This is what liberals do, they let these scum bag terrorists change our lives and our laws, by writing bills to limit our freedoms. Heck, why don't they outlaw airplanes, since the these scum bags can pose an iminent threat with them. The way I see it, Liberals seem to be more on the sides of the terrorists than us. If this bill does pass, I will move to another state which cares about the freedom of there citizens, and will not let the scum bag terrorists influence their laws. We need to drive the liberals out and all of what they stand for!!!!!

rossman
Re: New New York State Law I get it, let's change how we live and the laws for our law abiding citizens, just because there are scum bags out there who could possibly pose a threat. I do not understand!!!!!
Squirrelhunter91
Re: New New York State Law I sent an email to DEC including a link to this topic. Let's see how long it takes to get a response. My guess is I won't have a reply until deer season (mid-october). BTW, I second the comment about NY being a liberal breeding ground. Chuck Schumer and Hilary Clinton are scum.
