I got that groundhog... well sort of...

Recommended Posts

I looked out my bedroom window before and saw the groundhog I was talking about in another post under the bird feeder. I said ok. This could be good. My brother told me to take his pellet gun out. His pellet gun is a Gamo Multi-Shot that shoots pellets at 715 fps. So I load up an 8 round magazine, get outside, c.ock the gun once and reach the opening in the gate. I am not standing at the gate. I am about 5 yards behind the opening. I take aim, the songbirds fly off, the groundhog is still sitting there. I settle the crosshairs on it's head neck area, thinking I can make the shot, I shoot and it falls short. Now the thing freezes and looks to see what is going on. I c.ock the gun again and advance up to the gate. I then rested the gun on the fence and supported it with my other arm on the stock. Take aim and shoot. I love that noise. I hit it. It squirms on the ground for a split second and runs to the foot of its den. I then c.ock the gun again and let another pellet fly. THWAP. It dove down into it's hole. I don't feel bad one bit about wounding it. I would have liked to have recovered it, but things don't always work out. The critter dug up my yard, ate the tops of my cucumbers and escaped from me last year.

The first shot was at about 30 yards and the last two were at 25 yards or so. Give or take 1.
