slugshooter
Was looking at 1911 accessories on the Springfield site and was looking at the stainless steel barrels, they had "regular" and bull barrel. Is there a significant difference in a barrel listed as "bull" and will it fit into a normal 1911 frame or does the slide have to be modified. Also, what are the benefits to a bull barrel vs. regular?
hangunnr
Re: 1911 Bull barrel vs. regular This photo shows a bull barrel. You'll notice the barrel flares out to a much larger diameter at the muzzle than the standard barrel pictured below. To be able to use a bull barrel in a 1911 slide the recoil spring plug area of the slide has to be machined to allow the use of a reverse plug (one that slides in from the back) because there is no bushing used to capture it. You may also have to machine the lock up area of the barrel or slide to get a proper fit. I don't particularly care for the feel of a bull barreled 1911. I think it makes the gun too muzzle heavy. hangunnr

I had an idea thats what it was but wanted to make sure. If I do get a new barrel I'll just stick with a standard one.
