whitetailtrax
Re: Question for Hunters who camp... In my experience, if you are packing into an area you will want to be careful not to get too close to where you expect the elk to be feeding/bedding. If you are truck camping, the elk are usually used to having people around and it won't matter too much. Several years ago I was camping near the truck and had bulls bugling all around us, all night - drove us crazy. At one point I rolled over in the tent and the noise of my sleeping back spooked some elk that were feeding within feet of our tent - their hooves scared the begeebers out of me. Unfortunately they moved back into the higher country before daylight and we never got to see many of those animals. Good luck with it. jdickey
Re: Question for Hunters who camp... While hunting in New Mexico several years ago, ran across a guy that took a 6X6 in a picnic area, while his family was grilling hotdogs for lunch. Guess the smell of those BallPark Franks did him in! elkoholic
Re: Question for Hunters who camp... As long as you are not actively chasing them, elk can be very forgiving to human presense. They may even bugle just outside your tent in the middle of the night. Start chasing them and getting in close and they may move miles.
