HuntingInMaine
Any advice? Watch where you are walking! My son did the same thing last year when fishing with my bf. My bf took most of the stings for him, but they both came home pretty swollen. Thank God neither was allergic....hope Bill is feeling better soon! Ohiobucks
Re: Ground bees Yep, just took care of a bunch of ground bees last month in my yard. I ran over them with the mower, that made them real mad! Got stung once on my shoulder before I got out of there. I went back at dusk when they calmed down a bit, and sprayed the nest. You could hear them buzzing under the sod. A few tried to make it out, but the foaming spray knocked them all out. Have not had a problem since. Orion_70
Re: Ground bees I don't know what's worse, those or yellow jackets. I hit a bee nest with the bush hog last year, and no, the tractor does not go fast enough to escape. Yellow jackets are just ferocious though. AaronS
Re: Ground bees I mowed over a yellowjacket nest two summers ago while mowing a woods property line with a walk-behind. I got 10 stings in 100 degree heat index. No fun.
NYBUCK
Re: Ground bees Oh yeah, just did that at the camp Monday night while brushhogging. Got stung 4 times. Hand swelled up like a balloon. Bad thing is I couldn't find the little rascals.

bfletch7441
Re: Ground bees I hit a nest last Saturday while clearing some brush close to our house. Only got stung twice, and when I went back that night, they were nowhere to "bee" found. Hopefully I tore their nest up enough to run them off. Ravin R10 man
Re: Ground bees We always encouter ground nests out in the timber.....nice thing about our equipment is were inside a cab.....we just dig the nest out and drop buckets of dirt on em...to cover them up. The dry summer is the cause of more ground nests.

snapper
Re: Ground bees I was out pulling down trees out of the woods with the tractor the other day. I was pulling them to the edge of a field so I could cut them up for fire wood. After the third tree...I got off the tractor and was unchaining the tree I noticed yellow jackets all around the back of the tractor. I could see where they were going in and out of the weeds...but couldn't see the hole. I managed to get back on the tractor and get out of there without getting stung. Sprayed two cans of bee spray in the weeds where they were going in and out this morning...have to check tom. morning to see if I got them. I HATE BEES!!!!!! Hoosierbuck
Re: Ground bees We have railroad ties around our tomato patch, and there was a steady stream of bees going into a hole next to one. I sprayed the hole about 4-5 times, and killed bees each time, but more kept coming over a period of days. Finally the other night I go out at dark witrh a fresh can o' whoop a$$ and a flashlight. I spray the hole a little, then wait. Then I tip over the tie...which was vibrating from all the buzzing...and holy moly! The hive was about 8"x5"x10". I realized I am still pretty quick for an aging O-lineman, when properly motivated. I am out of bee stuff now, but the hive is toast. I don't mind bugs, generally, but that quantity gave me the heebie-jeebies. HB
VTbowman
Re: Ground bees I got hit hard two days in a row while doing improvements on that box stand I had pics of last week. One hit my right hand index finger knuckle and the next day the ring finger on the same hand. Yea that hand was pretty useless for a few days. The bees were inside, or coming out of one of the metal tubing legs to the base of my stand and the drilling must of peeved them a bit. Dang things made me drop my 18v dewalt cordless drill in the mud! I plugged the top of the legs to prevent further stinging and continued on bravely... AJ
Re: Ground bees I was cutting the grass yesterday and got popped 4 times by yellow jackets. I had shorts on and sneakers. The little buggers were not showing themselves until I ran over their hole with the riding mower. Then I feel the burn, OW! I got hit 2 under the thigh, one on my calf, and one on the ankle. Luckily I am not alergic. I have been stung by honey bees, yellow jackets, and wasps throughout the years.
SaskMan
Re: Ground bees There are piles of bees near my place. Goldenrod grows wild and every stem of it seems to have a couple crawling around on it collecting pollen. Lucky for me I guess they build their hives in trees and don't really bother us. I did find one hive started in a shed out back though, nailed it with the raid. I didn't want to get stung while putting stuff away for winter.
