Shaun_300
Re: Pet Peeves Mike, that was supposed to be read as deer's, as in the antlers belonging to the deer. He didn't mean it in a plural way. I've got quite a few pet peeves. Definetly slow drivers really get me aggrivated...
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Pet Peeves [ QUOTE ] When people call a deers antlers horns. [/ QUOTE ] You said it correctly, you just left off the apostrophe between the r and s. It's possesive, so it should be "deer's antlers". Man, I can't believe I remembered that! I haven't had high school English in 30 years...
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Pet Peeves Here's one - People who bail hay then leave the bales sitting in the field and let the next crop of hay grow up around the bales. Haul the darn things to the barn!!!

If it was before the "s" it would be signifying a missing letter, or letters....right? [/ QUOTE ] No, you put the ' before the s if you are only talking about one deer's antlers. If there is more than one deer, the ' goes after the s.

markyj987
Re: Pet Peeves [ QUOTE ] I thought the apostrophe was supposed to be after the s for possessive. (deers' antlers) [/ QUOTE ] Apostophe after the s if you're referring to the antlers of multiple deer....before the s if the antlers of a single deer. I was awake that day in grammar class. Most of my pet peeves are about drivers. Particularly those who drive the speed limit in the left lane, those who don't shoulder-check before changing lanes, and those who slow down to look at an accident or disabled vehicle. Rubbernecking REALLY ticks me off.
markyj987
Re: Pet Peeves I thought of another pet peeve--phones. Good Lord, do I HATE phones--or talking on them more specifically. Every time my phone rings, I cringe. Anyone who has ever worked in a call center for any period of time knows what I mean. Even if it's someone I like talking to I'm always half tempted to throw my phone.
