slugshooter
I can't really help you except to sympathize with what you are talking about. I had an 835, I only shot 3 1/2's through it also, I sold it so I could get my Nova though. It is a brute though, even with the barrel porting. AJ
Re: Mule 835 To reduce the recoil you have to: 1. Add weight to the gun 2. Reduce ammo's payload and/or velocity You can reduce the felt recoil by changing to a better quality recoil pad like the Pachmayr Decelerator, Simms Limbsaver, or Kick-Eez. Recoil pads do not last forever. They need to be changed every few years to keep the performance optimum. As they age, they get hard and the guns kick harder and harder. A new pad will not make a 3.5" lead turkey load feel like a field load. It will still have a lot of punch. It will cushion it a bit though. AJ
Re: Mule 835 The width is determined by the width of the stock. The pad thickness is up to the buyer. You can get a thin pad or a 1.5" thick pad, its up to you. If you change the thickness of the pad, the length of pull is going to change. That can have serious repurcussions on how the gun fits you and how you feel the recoil. On a rifle, its not that big of a deal but on a shotgun that is used for wingshooting, its a big no-no. If the gun fits you now, and you want a thicker pad, you should cut the stock to maintain the same over all length with the new pad. You can see the different pads by Pachmayr on their web page. You can see the different Kick-Eez pads here. And finally the Simms pads.
too_pointer
Re: Mule 835 My 835 was a total bruiser also, now it only hurts the guy I sold it too If you are using it for mainly turkey an added thickness will not matter as much as when you are shooting flying targets ! I have a Simms, and like it very much, but it is pretty thick !! too_
hangunnr
Re: Mule 835 I have a 835 with the wood stock. I filled the bolt hole with bird shot then capped the hole with hot melt glue. On top of that I added a Simms pad. While this made the gun heavier it is much more pleasant to shoot. hangunnr
LifeNRA
Re: Mule 835 I have the Sims pad on my 835, it took a little kick out of it! But it strickly for turkey, so I dont shhot it all that often. I want the 935 next year.
