Guest bexar_county89
I dunno about experience hunter, but I know a lil about the sport!!! As for rifle's the best experience I can offer, is to try one, and see if it suits you. Whats good for one gal ain't great for the next. My girl huntin buddy prefers a .308 where as I love my .270. Thanks for your kind thoughts about us!!!!

Alisha
Re: Makin a name for ourselves Again, welcome outdoorwimom! It's great to have more females on the forum! Too much testosterone floating around. LOL Anyway, up until last year, I was shooting a .243 but last fall I started taking a .270 and I prefer it over the .243 BIG time! I killed 3 deer with the .243 but never once did the bullet go all the way through the deer.... unlike the .270 which puts a hurtin' on em! You said that you have experience in small game but you didn't specify what all you've actually hunted! I'm (along with everyone else, I'm sure!) looking forward to hearing some of your stories. HuntingInMaine
Re: Makin a name for ourselves I use a remington 30-06 if I am sitting for the day. It does kick a little harder then some other rifles, but you honestly don't feel a thing when you have a deer in your sights! If I am walking that day I use a ruger 44 rifle. I got my first deer with it last year, so there is now an emotional connection to the gun! LOL Good luck this season, and keep asking questions! There are lots of very smart hunters here and they are happy to help whenever they can.
Guest Andrea
Re: Makin a name for ourselves Welcome!!! I started out with a youth model .243 and have taken some pretty big deer with it. However, I am upgrading this year to a .308. Just got a Swarovski scope for it and am so excited!!!! I had a choice of getting a .270 or a .308 and although the .308 does have bit of a kick, I like it's power. And as far as faking it to impress the guys???? Well, I would never hunt just to do that. ( Even though they DO get a kick out of it)
Guest chicks_hunt_to
Re: Makin a name for ourselves if i was you i would use .243 for deer and antelope (love that gun) .270 or .308 for elk and ummm for snakes this is off subgect but .45 colt for snakes or a .
ladyluck
Re: Makin a name for ourselves I love my .280 it really does the job. Before my .280 I had a .308 that was my Mom's. But my favorite weapon is my Mathews Bow!!! Good luck in your hunting.
