Backpack alternative

Hey I just noticed I got new head gear. Woo Hoo!

(I almost highjacked my own thread on the first post. shocked.gif)

Anywho, I always carry my backpack on the back of my climber. This gets really bulky. What does everyone else do?

I could cut down on equipment but when you are spending all day in the woods its hard to skimp.

Has anyonw tried those mondo fanny packs?

Re: Backpack alternative

I take way too much gear with me to use a little fanny pack...lol.

I use a little larger day pack...if hunting a fixed or ladder stand...just throw it on my back. If I'm taking my climber (loggy) I also strap it to the stand to carry in.

The good thing with the loggy stand is...the stand and climbing aid are two parts and everything folds flat and the climbing aid lays on top of the stand. Then there are two bungy cords to strap the climbing aid to the stand...I lay my pack in the center hole and criss cross the bungy's to hold the climbing aid and pack to the stand...everything neat and flat. I've even strapped extra jackets under the cords to carry to the tree.

Re: Backpack alternative

Any one using a summit stand, and they might fit some others, I don't know, should look into the Summit side storage bags. I have a set on my Broadhead Backpacker. I pack them up the night before with my calls, release, a book, and any other little odds and ends. You don't even know they are on the stand when you are carrying it.

I do the same as Tedicast. I have the saddle bags on my Summit. I can haul more than enough crap into the woods with them and my pockets.

Sounds like exactly what I'm going to start doing since I now have a Summit with the saddle bags. wink.gif

Me too! I bought the side bags the same day! They will hold more than what I need too! I really got to stop going to Cabela's! I was there today and almost bought the front bag! The wife is going to kill me! LOL!!!

I usually wear it on the back between my and my climber.

My climber tends to bounce sometimes and the fanny pack pads it enough to keep it from making noise.

When I wear my fanny pack around back. My climber is always pushing it down as it rubs against it, and I'm constantly stopping and re-adjusting it. This problem was solved by turning it around.

Well stated!! A back pack is the way to go. I hate fanny paks mainly because they always seem to drop down your waist when wearing them. Been there, done that route.
