Tominator
Yesterday my oldest son, 11, pummeled my #2 8 year old son. Joe was provoked no doubt, but he knows pummeling little bro, is a no no. (that rhymes btw) Anyway, he's done this in the past so his punishment this time was no TV, no Gameboy, Game Cube or computer at all for one day. Man, you talk about the torture. How were you punished?
HarvDog
Re: Punishment Beatins of course! Some grounding as I got older. Things like no going outside, TV, etc.
VTbowman
Re: Punishment We did the same punishment to our 8 yo son a few weeks ago for lying to 2 adults about a toys he said his cousin "gave" to him. We found he slote it, told his grandmother one thing and his mom another. His "sentence" was for one week and the kid was soooo greatfull to regain his TV and GameBoy after 1 week that he is a changed "man" now..... LOL If it were me, mine would of included, (and did) and stiff boot in the hind end, THEN, the 1 or 2 weeks grounding in my room. Back then missing 3 channels of TV was not a big thing, nor video games even invented yet. LOL
superguide
Re: Punishment My neighbor used to make us sit on a chair in the middle of the kitchen by ourselves when we were bad. She was really onto something it was pure torture.
texastrophies
Re: Punishment I think the worst punishment I got (to me) was when I would slam a door shut, my mom would make me stand there and hold the door knob for ever, probably only a couple of minutes, but it seemed like an eternity when I was wanting to go outside and do something. Of course, I got the spankings and groundings, but holding that darn door knob really stuck with me.
preacherman
Re: Punishment we never got grounded or anything taken away from us.........we just got old fashioned whoopins!
VtBowhunter
Re: Punishment We got a good dose of everything. I had my tail warmed quite a few times, but the worst was being sat in a chair in the middle of the kitchen, and I couldn't do anything......no talking, no reading, no goofing around.......just sit there and shut up. Guest Andrea
Re: Punishment Mom always did the spankin...all Dad had to do was look at me. ( It was instant diarrhea.) He never had to spank. As I got older...it was being grounded (no phone, no tv, no going out)

dogdoc
Re: Punishment when i was younger punishment was always with the belt. When I got my dirt bike which i rode everyday it was then grounded from the bike. Then when I got my truck it was grounded from that. todd
johnf
Re: Punishment A good butt whoopin' never killed me or my kid. Don't be afraid bust thier hind end when they need it. And sometimes that's exactly what they need. Time outs, grounding, taking away tv, gameboy ect. works for somethings. But there is no replacing a good "tanning of the hide". ultratec1
Re: Punishment What the HECK!!! I thought that I was the only one that got the chair. Nothing worse than sitting in the dang kitchen and listening to everyone else playing. Man I'm glad someone else had the same torture. That's what the goverment needs to do to the Gitmo prisoners. Sit them in the kitchen, we'll have Bin Laden in 30 mins.
hobie
Re: Punishment When I was a kid and got punished you got the belt if you did anything wrong.I believe it made me a better person for it because I knew what was coming so it kept me out of some things so not to get the belt
Tominator
Re: Punishment [ QUOTE ] Don't be afraid bust thier hind end when they need it. [/ QUOTE ] Trust me, they did. The 3 older children are too old to spank now IMHO, they get privileges taken away now. I tanned the 3 year old's butt just Tuesday for not listening to "No" about 20 times. Personally, I got paddled, set in the corner and kicked by my dad. Seems to me after that childhood, I didn't need too much more disciplining, and I think that's where my kids are headed. Turkeygirl
Re: Punishment When my sister and I were really young, we got spanked, lol! When we got older, we got grounded (to our rooms or no TV or computer). Now well, we just get yelled at by mom!
MCH
Re: Punishment I got whooped with whatever was handy. Belt, switch(hickory, oak, bois d'arc, they didn't discriminate), baseball glove, flyswatter, and of course the bare hand. My son gets spanked although I rarely miss his diaper and its more of a scare tactic than a "inflict pain" tactic. My daughter?? Not sure if I could spank her or not. Might have to enlist the wife for that duty. Like Tominator said, once I can actually ground them where they realize that they're being grounded, the whoopings will stop. I think taking away privileges works better on older kids.

[/ QUOTE ] I had a tough time swatting my girl too, but she did get a few. Not as much as the boys. I think I've only swatted the 3 year old about 3 times, I attribute that to his older brothers and sister keeping him in line because they knew the consequences, lol. Most all of the studies say that physical punishment on a kid past say 9 or 10 years old is inappropriate.
