Gator, I know exactly where your coming from on this point and have to side with you and I don't even know Ya man.. I live in Vermont I challenge any one of these so called trophy hunters to come here in the short season we have and pass up on whats presented to them, they will do this only to leave every season empty handed. All I got to say is it must be real nice to live in a state where they have great deer genitics and deer management to be able to pass on deer. But for us that don't live in such states we take whats given to us and are just happy to be able to harvest an animal as great as the whitetail deer. So Gator just keep feeding the family and the heck with the rest of them....

I hope nobody took any of my posts the wrong way. I will respect any deer that a hunter takes as long as it's done legally. It's just as hard to harvest a small deer as it is a monster buck. A bow or gun won't shoot itself. A trophy is in the eyes of the hunter. Come on now, don't belittle a guy for feeding his family or because you don't hunt the same way he does. Just be glad that we have a place like this where we can all talk about what we love to do and that's hunt. And be glad we are still able to hunt and take in everything God created.

Re: Do you really hold out for the big ones?

Case in point.....I shot a 4 point with a kicker so maybe a 5 point during muzzleloader. Now, my goal is to get bigger deer on the land I hunt. I know this was not the QDM thing to do. But, I had a HUGE monkey on my back with my muzzleloader. I was shooting Hornady XTP's and had lost 3 deer because the bullet wasn't doing much damage. I switched to the precision rifle dead center 220 grain bullet with 100 grains of 777 powder. I really needed to take a deer with my muzzleloader to get this monkey off my back so thats what I did. Bad mouth me if you want. My confidence is restored in my muzzleloader and I consider myself a more ethical hunter because I know I shoot a more ethical load now. My 2 cents worth but I feel likes its a million bucks. GT
