Squirrelhunter91
It is legal in NY to take waterfowl with a bow and to shoot at them on land. Now I have a question. Do I need decoys to get them onto the land or should I just play the waiting game and see if they come into bow range? Goose season opens Sept. 1st! Squirrelhunter91
Re: Waterfowl with a bow? No I'm not kidding. The place where I plan to hunt is in a bow only area. I'm not going to take any shots in the air!
huntn4bucks
Re: Waterfowl with a bow? Best of luck. I would definitely use some decoys and a call...the bow however I'm not so sure of.
Covehnter
Re: Waterfowl with a bow? If the place was covered in geese, and a bow only area. . . then i'd try it. Put out some decoys and leave'em a good landing zone within 30 yards and stick it too them. If you get more than one in bow range i bet you can shoot more than one b4 they figure out whats going on. Guest gfourhunter
Re: Waterfowl with a bow? we tryed it. it was a ball. found out it was better to use a recurve bow with a flue flue arrow. arrow only goes about 40 yards and falls to the ground. you would want to put some deeks out to bring them in as close as you can. good luck, its a balst. dont get your hopes up if you dont get to many. its hard. RTF
Re: Waterfowl with a bow? You better call your local DEC officer before you do anything. I cant answer you about using bow down there for geese. Also did you get your HIP number ? You will need one to hunt early goose.
dogdoc
Re: Waterfowl with a bow? i doubt it that you can shoot them on the ground---i've never heard of this being legal---even with a bow. todd

Bob LeBlanc
Re: Waterfowl with a bow? In Canada, it is illegal to shoot waterfowl with any weapon that fires a single projectile...ie. bow or rifle or slug. I don't like the notion of bowhunting for geese because I've seen too many photo's of geese flying off with arrows stuck in them (shot by people who don't know better or poachers)...the media LOVES that kind of stuff, and it hurts ALL hunters. Being a dyed-in-the-wool goose hunter, I know they are a very hardy bird and can, at times, take alot before succumbing to even a 3 1/2" magnum load. Those big wings can carry them a pretty far distance. I'd think twice on your notion there, squirrelhunter. It may be a viable venture, but ethically, it is dubious. RTF
Re: Waterfowl with a bow? squirrelhunter, you talk about a bow only area. But does that just pertain to deer hunting ? Is there no small game hunting allowed with shotgun ?
Squirrelhunter91
Re: Waterfowl with a bow? RTf, no small game hunting allowed w/ a shotgun either. Bow only, no firearm discharge, period. That does not pertain to bow. Across the reservoir, there are houses anyway and I wouldn't hunt with a shotgun there even if I could. I have checked with DEC. I sent an email to them last fall and they let me know it was ok as long as I was registered in HIP ( which I am ) and that I can shoot them on the ground with a bow.
