huntrman
I just want to give everyone a heads up with what I'm about to say. I went to the bow shop with my brother early this morning and after I returned I decided I would go out to check on my deer stands. Now after last season I decided to leave my climber in the woods. I did this because I have been hunting this woods for about 5 years and NEVER once had a problem...until now. I entered the woods after walking through the horse pasture and to my amazement I saw a couple of trees down. Now these weren't regular trees that just blow over, BUT I just thought that maybe from some of the storms we have had here, maybe some rotation(possible tornado) or some high winds might have blown them over. So I ventured on back to my stand when I could not believe my eyes. THE ENTIRE WOODS was being logged. Trees were EVERYWHERE. To top it all off after 5 years of hunting this woods I could not recognize where I was or where my treestand would be. So I ventured a little farther and finally found the tree(still standing) where my climber WAS. I knew it was the tree because I looked up and saw my gear hook still in the tree and saw marks that the climber left on the tree. While I was doing this my brother was up at the house asking the land owner if he sold the land or what had happened. To our amazement, he didn't sell the land, he just let someone come in a log it, BUT never gave us a hint that he was letting someone do this and never let us know to come and get our stands, which we would have done immediately. Sure I would have been upset if someone stole my stand with the woods still in good shape, BUT to not tell us this was going to happen and then have it stolen? That just seems unreal to me. I know I could have gone out after season and got the stand, but I never had a clue this was going to occur. I just had to vent and let everyone know that you learn something everyday. So I guess the only advice I can give you guys is to either not leave your stands in the woods no matter how long you've hunted that particular spot or ask the land owner if he has ever thought about letting someone log his woods and if so to make sure he contacts you so you can get your stuff. Just had to vent.

dogdoc
Re: Unreal man--sorry about your loss. I guess that's a chance you take when you leave your equipment out. I usually remove all my hang on stands after season--just put them back up for Oct 1 opener. However every year it seems they get harder to hang and i decided next year I'm leaving them. I'd rather just replace the straps every year. sorry about losing your climber. did the landowner know your stands were still out there---if not you can't really blame him--if so a courtesy call would have been nice. todd

This is what I was going to say... It does stink either way for sure though.
huntrman
Re: Unreal Yeah it does stink, and yeah thats a good question. The answer to that would be yes. As a matter of fact, just the other day my brother talked to him about hunting again, and maybe planting some stuff so he had to know we had our stands out there. Nothing I can really do now, except find a new spot, hang 2 of my lock ons and have a good season. Maybe this was just a sign that I needed to find a new hunting spot. wtnhunt
Re: Unreal Thats too bad, but honestly the landowner probably did not think anything about your stands, and probably never thought to call you about it if he even knew they were still out there. VTbowman
Re: Unreal Loosing a stand and a place to hunt in one swoop. Man that sucks. However if it was not totally clear cut this coulld benifit you if your still allowed to hunt it. The tree your stand was in was not cut so that tells me it was not clear cut. I know I have had these feelings too over woods that were logged hard but the deer used them even more once the young stuff started to come back up. Its still a huge shock and the loss of your stand does not make it seem like a good thing for sure. Sorry about that...

Guest BowHunter81
Re: Unreal Yeah maybe you should ask if you canstill hunt it and who knows, maybe it will be a plus for you, use it to you advantage. Just to say, I would ask the land owner who done the logging and call the loggig company and ask for your treestand back or at least let them know that someone had stole it.
