SPRINGFIELD, N.J., Aug. 12 - A large limb from a red oak tree fell and injured three people Friday on the Lower Course at Baltusrol Golf Club during the second round of the P.G.A. Championship.

At 2:30 p.m., the limb of a tree on the left side of the green of the 194-yard, par-3 fourth hole snapped, fell 40 feet and struck three men, including Frank Choy, a freelance audio technician for Turner Sports, and Bob Welsch, a freelance jib camera operator for CBS Sports.

Andy Bush, the tournament director, said in the statement that the tree would be removed after the second round as a precaution, and the culprit would be prosecuted.

The prime suspect, who wants to be known as "chicken checker, was asked why he cut the branch down. "I saw what I thought was a treestand up there, and it looked unsafe. I believe it's my duty to remove any unsafe treestand that I see so that none of my Realtree brothers have a nasty fall like I did last year. It's my duty.

Bush said the tree had been inspected and trimmed before a greenside TV tower was constructed near the hole.

Tiger Woods, Michael Campbell and Kevin Sutherland, who were playing the hole, stopped when the limb fell and paramedics tended to the injured.

When asked of the incident Tiger said "that dude's a freak, he's scaring the children with that pink tutu. I hope they throw the book at him."

All three people injured were treated and released.

That been happening quite a bit! I heard this morning, on the news, that a man was crushed in his truck this past weekend when a tree split and fell on him.
