VTbowman
Ok so who has it all figured out? LOL I never really paid much attention to moon phases since I normally only have a hand full of days to hunt and I'd go anyways.. LOL But whats the deal with full moon and mid day movements. Is this for real? I mean Ive read on it over the years but really paid it no heed. I do remember an all day ML hunt in mid December, snowed all night and no tracks come morning. Nothing was moving and I was froze and hunger so I ran home at 11:30am for 30 mintues only to go back and see a ton of deer tracks in the once unspoiled snow, at noon time. Is there some info on this. Studies or facts? Person experiences/opinions? Just curious...
GWSmith
Re: Moon phases and deer movement. Shawn, You have to pay attention to what happens in your area. I know that even on the Full Moon nights deer move the next day.....almost exactly 12 hrs after the moon was right overhead the night before. Thats how it worked when I was in Florida anyways. I bought one of those Moon Guides put out by Jeff Murray and the darn thing seemed to work for me....within 15 minutes of the movement times that thing would say...deer moved in the areas it said it would. Not Every Time I was Hunting....but when they did move...it was when that Moon Guide said they would....tends to make one a believer in something when it has that many coincidences in a row. Try it out...some night when you cant sleep see where the moon is in the sky....then sleep in and go hunting an hour or two before the 12 hour later mark. Hey....Even if it dont work your first couple times trying it.....record when it seems to happen that you see deer and check out when the moon was overhead the night before...... Remember its not cheating if it works....people just think your cheating when you shoot more deer than they do and you dont tell them your secrets
VTbowman
Re: Moon phases and deer movement. Thanks bro I will get one of them charts and check it out. Are they the same as in Field and Stream?
Tominator
Re: Moon phases and deer movement. well, not 100% sure about the moon's roll, but i do believe it affects deer movement somewhat. i know i'm in the woods as much as possible with the new moon that falls in late october or november. this year the new moon doesn't fall until november 14th i think, and so far buck movement around here hasn't been squat. some of that has to do with the warm temperatures we've been having too i think.
