What are your thoughts?

If you were going on a hunting trip and the drive to get there is 12-13 hours long, when would you leave? Would you leave the day before early in the morning and get a good night sleep? Or start out driving the night before only to jump out of your truck and start hunting right when you get there?

Everyone has their preference what is yours? My preference is to get a good night sleep if you are going to be hunting a full day. But that might not happen when we go on our archery antelope hunt. frown.gif

If I could leave early... definately.

But if forced to leave late and hunt a little tired, well, that's why God gave man the insight to wear a safety harness!

Looks like my IA hunt this year might be that way, unless I can get another day off of work ( or suddenly come down with a flu bug)!

Re: What are your thoughts?

I would get close to your destination a day in advance so as to save on the rushing around and to get a good tour of the areas you might hunt. I would also stay in a motel or hotel nearby on that night so you have some time to get a good nights sleep well in advance of your actual arrival date at camp. You'd be amazed at how much concentration you can gain by just a few more hours of sleep and not rushing straight from the road to the field on a long journey. Then when you arrive in camp you can get settled in and be ready for a full day or afternoon of hunting.

Re: What are your thoughts?

Sleep the night and leave early in the morning the next day.

I have this situation this November going to WV with GW. I work Wednesday to 8pm and will be getting home around 9pm. I will pack up the truck so I can just leave will the next morning after a good breakfast.

Re: What are your thoughts?

Don't forget that you need your rest for the driving as well. I would suggest to get a good nights sleep before. On my trips to the midwest I would drive until I was tired and then hit a rest stop and nap, then continue until tired again.

Depends on how much time you have. I would rather spend my limited time near or on the hunting ground than to be hung out in a motel on the way. Motels are time consuming.

Re: What are your thoughts?

That's why I suggested to get a motel/hotel in the same town as the camp so you can scout a little and then not burn a day in camp getting off the road and trying to relax a bit. Besides, I bet it would be cheaper staying in a motel than at a camp for a night anyway. Arriving ready to Fling with a String is always a good start.
