Bow Hunter Derek
Anyone tried the new Heavy Steel from Heavy Shot? I picked up a box of 25 3" #2's today for $20. If it performs at all like Heavy Shot, this could be a good deal. I'm a huge fan of Heavy Shot, but at $20 for 10 rounds, it gets pricy. I can't wait to try this Heavy Steel out in a couple weeks on geese.
clayman
Re: Heavy Steel They sound like decent loads, but I'm kinda cheap when it comes to prices. I won't even buy my 10ga loads for that price. In fact after the season last year, I stocked up on a case of 10ga Winchester Supreme (10 boxes of 25) for $140.00. I imagine you are hunting Canadas over decoys. If you can decoy them inside of 20 yards, there's nothing you can't kill cleanly with a basic 3" steel load. Bow Hunter Derek
Heavy Steel - Field Report Well I went out hunting this past weekend and took down 10 geese, all with 3" #2 Hevy Steel. I was VERY impressed. There was a noticable difference between it and the steel my buddies were shooting. I was taking down the last remaining goose from the flocks (as they were flying away), while my buddies were doing no damage what-so-ever. Also, beside one bird, I never had a serious cripple (my dog ran down that cripple) while my buddies had several that the dog had to run down. It is still not as good as the true Hevy Shot, but it is definately a vast improvement over true steel. And at just under $20 for 25, better priced than the bismuth and tungsten loads. With the exidous of Remington from the Hevy Shot market, this new Hevy Steel might be the new ticket. I'll be picking up another box or two before duck season.
