VermontHunter
Here's another pickup that just seems crazy to me,,,not that LeClair is a bad player, but the Penguins just don't seem to fit his style of play,,,and with his age and seasonal injury attributes, I just can't see spendsing this kind of money on a player of his age, with the cap so tight as it is..... But him being a native Vermonter I wish him the best with his new team......Just to good tho, the Pens meet my Bruins way too many times.. pa_sportsman
Re: LeCalir to the Penguins I don't understand the acquisition of LeClair either. I haven't heard the terms of the 2-year contract, but can't imagine that the Penguins offerred much money. I hope that he can stay healthy enough to contribute this year. I don't understand their recent pick up of a career 5th defenseman either. They are already loaded with 5th defensemen. I read that the 'Guins are close to signing Josef Stumpel, who is a good friend of Ziggy Palffy. I hope that Aleksey Morozov enjoyed playing in Russia last year. I think that his days as a Penguin are finally over. It's about time!
VermontHunter
Re: LeClair to the Penguins ,,,got me all I can come up with for all of these missfit deals is that the league teams are in a scramble to replace players that they have released becuase of the cap,,,,but that still leaves us with the salary issue doesn't it....Just crazy to me,,but hey it should lead to a very interesting year of hockey.... Bob LeBlanc
Re: LeClair to the Penguins Point-to-ponder... If Leclaire gets healthy, and parks his arse in front of the net while Mario and Sidney get to free-wheel on the perimeter...how many goals do you think he'll get? He's big, he's strong, he's had a year off to heal...the defense can't ignore him which should open up ice down low, which is Sidney's forte. I agree with you to some extent, Leclaire could be a 'bust'...but what if he's a 'boom'? He may be aged, he ain't quite decrepid Bob
VermontHunter
Re: LeClair to the Penguins Bob, when was the last time you saw John parked in front of the net, taking shots to the back from D-men and the Goalie ???? Don't get me wrong when he's on his game he's a danger to any team trying to defend him.........as for his age decrepid he's not but he's also not 20 yrs. old any longer and his past injuries have proven to be a huge burden to him.... I hope he doe's well,,but I guess we'll soon find out..

SaskMan
Re: LeClair to the Penguins Could be a great move, could be a terrible one. I liken it to the Lindros, Allsion pickups the Leafs made. If he plays like he did a few yrs ago, great move, if not, a waste of $$.
muggs
Re: LeClair to the Penguins I'm not really sold on the Pens talent. They keep adding guys, but I think their D is really weak. With the exception of Gonchar....ain't that right superguide?
SaskMan
Re: LeClair to the Penguins As a Pens fan I can say that with their new aquisitions they are still not going to be a powerhouse. Remember that they were the last place team 2 years ago. Even with the new additions and Crosby I honestly think they will not threaten the top teams in the conference. I might be wrong on this too, and I'm not trying to put him down b/c he is a great talent but I'm not sure how much of an impact Crosby will make. Let's remeber he is only a kid playing in a man's league. He could be great but at the same time their is a chance that his rookie season will be mediocre. He will be a star someday, will it be this year?
buckbuster11
Re: LeClair to the Penguins I think its a decent pickup. I mean why not? Who else do they have? This team has stunk in recent years and they are the talk of the town right now. There hasnt been this much excitement about hockey in years around here. I think there is a real good chance this is a playoff team. We shall see.
muggs
Re: LeClair to the Penguins It will be interesting, with all these moves, anybody can come out on top. I personally like Tampa's chances with their youth and as far as I know they've pretty much kept that team intact. As for Crosby, he'll be an offensive threat right away. With the way the game is played now, no one will ever come in an make an impact like Gretzky or Lemiuex did as rookies, but if anything the new rules with help him get space and use some of that creativety. VermontHunter
Re: LeClair to the Penguins Just keep in mind boys,,my Bruins haven't lost hardley anything and have picked up some great players as well..... Now back to John,,,,,remember he was very effective in front of the net,,,,,other than that don't count on much,,you definately won't see him on the powerplay of killing penalty's either..... His strong point was strictley in front of the net,,,and with his shoulder and numerous back surgeries don't plan on him being there much...so unless he has something else to offer that Im not aware of I just don't see this as a very good fit for the Pens....JMO

VermontHunter
Re: LeClair to the Penguins You know Bob you don't need to pick up the slack for Shawn and Josh,,they do just fine on thier own ragging on me.... Like I said beware of my Bruins this season....but I think you are 100% right no one team is going to run away with anything.... I really do hope John has a banner year with the Pens. I'm also wondering when I ever said anything about who'd win the Olympics. If you don't like the Europeans in the league that's fine but I never said they were my "Euroflavors", I said that there were some darn good Europeans in the league and that 10 of the top 20 scorers this year would be from across the pond. Go ahead and hate them but don't hate me for being a realist.
superguide
Re: LeClair to the Penguins Ohh don't be soo sensitive I was trying to think of that European D-man while James tortured me. Now your acting like a Europeanlol I'm just trying to lead back to the straight and narrow path lol. I agree there are some good Europeans but they aren't any 'BETTER' than our homegrown boys. They remind me an awful lot of a group og kids I have to coach-I think you know the ones I mean. It just really rips me when a European is perceived to be more creative etc just because he's European. Geez man your a living example of a Canadian player who can dangle with the best.
