Ditto!! When the bucks are cruising, I'm up a tree from kin 'til cain't. During the days before the rutting moon, you will see deer movement during every hour of the day. If you ain't there.........you ain't gonna be killing them. wink.gif As for how to stay in all day............you gotta want it. It's not really hard for me at all. I just enjoy the day. I take plenty to eat & drink and a "potty-bottle", too. Nothing to read or no video games or anything like that, though.

Re: Who sits in a stand all day?

I use to do it every time out.

I had to drive well over an hour one way to a small piece of timber I hunted when I 1st started going by myself back in my USAF days and I was stationed in LA. If I wanted morning and evening hunts then I sat all day. Or at least ate a lunch in the truck but was still way out and hunting.

I do not do this any longer in VT with my house only a mile away from my hunting properties front gate. Hot food, fire place, and deer running in my front yard makes it hard to sit a stare at nothing at times...

LOL

I still manage to sit dark to dark on the opening weekend of each season. If I have not tagged out by then I will revert back to morning and evening hunts with a nice hour to 2 hour break for lunch and of coarse a trip to the crapper. shocked.gifcrazy.gifgrin.gif

LOL

Re: Who sits in a stand all day?

I've done it a few times. During the peak of the rut, it's actually quite easy. If I'm seeing deer, I'll stay.

Almost did it a couple times last year. After seeing 20 or 30 deer, and missing 2 one morning, I got down around noon to meet up with ohiobucks, but that day I could have been up all day.

I think the key to staying out all day is seeing deer and being comfortable. If I'm cofortable as far as stand situation, and temperature, and having activity around me, you can do it.

Re: Who sits in a stand all day?

I've got a tree lounge so it makes it very easy to sit all day in it if I have something to occupy me. I've snoozed in that thing plenty of times. I try to throw out bird seed near the stand so at least I can watch them if deer arent' showing up. It depends on the stand and time of year also. I usually try to hunt areas going to bedding areas in the morning and food plots in the evening but if it's the run I try to stay where the doe are bedding or on a travel route between those areas.

he was talking about sitting in a stand for 10 to 16 hours.

[/ QUOTE ]

He was Lying!!!!! grin.gif Maybe 10 but I'm not sure how or why anyone would sit for 16. By the time non residents are allowed up here we have maybe 9 hours of daylight a day at best. Unless he was hunting early season, there is no reason to sit for more than that.

In regards to the ?.....I do not do it enough. I should do it more but I get lazy too often. I guess knowing the warm house and a cup of coffee or only a couple miles away chases me home too soon somedays. On the days I have I have saw deer all day but it is not comfy sitting in a tree for that long whehn it is -30, no matter how you are dressed. Big Bucks move all day and too be honest if I had more full days to hunt I would do it more.

Re: Who sits in a stand all day?

I can usually stay in the stand until around noon but that's about it for me unless of course I'm seeing alot of deer then I will fight off the stiffness for as long as I can. But I mostly hunt during the morning hours and the late afternoon so it usually works out for me. If I hunt during the middle of the day I usually like to still hunt on the ground.

Re: Who sits in a stand all day?

I've tried to do it, and failed. My uncle does it all the time, I dunno how he does it, but it's never a problem for him. It's really hard to sit for a long time in this part of Michigan in November. Doesn't matter how I layer, eventually my toes start getting numb.

I'll try again this year, I'm a bit more determined to do it this year.

Re: Who sits in a stand all day?

with my medical problems me sitting in a stand is like an act of god. with my back and neck and loss of my left arm strength for me to sit in one place is almost for naught except for my recliner which i can move my legs up and down and that does help some. now if i had a recliner for a deer stand i might could do it or if i had a blind with a revoloving seat we couold go that way as well lol

Re: Who sits in a stand all day?

I have done it many times and will probably do it again.

I have killed a lot of deer over my hunting years and have never even once seen anything to shoot at between 11:30 am. and 4:00 pm. but I'm out there anyway. Maybe some day the "Big One" will come by while I'm the only one still in the stand.

I have no problem sitting from before sun up to after sundown. What helps is the wildlife and the scenery, plus you never know when that buck of a lifetime will show up like the one that died in front of me last year.71 more days to go and I can't wait.

Re: Who sits in a stand all day?

I think its odd that people sit in for 4-6 hours. Every time I go out, I sit from 7AM - 5:30PM (depending on available hours that is, might have somewhere to be, work or recreational stuff). And yes, many people try this and once, I started just "trying" it too. But then I just got more and more dedicated and learned to sit all day, crosswords, VERY short naps and the woods to occupy my time.

p.s. theres NOTHING like sitting all boring day long, and when the night hits, the adrenaline is 10X more apparent.

ill sit on my stand for a while during rifle season..probably till around 11:00 or 12:00, i think all the other hunters get giddy after like 10:00 and start walking around the woods, so i just wait.
