Re: My First Deer Mount

If were being honest here. I would say, the one that you had done is much better than the one you did yourself. The face looks like a toy deer. But for the first deer it's OK. It is better than I could do.

Don't mean to be negative, but if everyone here on this site is pumpin your work up when it is not that good, then you will not get any better. Good luck on your next one!!!!

Re: My First Deer Mount

Those are two beautiful animals.

Keep plugging on the mounts. Before you know it you'll have people pounding down your door. My cousin started doing taxidermy when he was fourteen... he did my first deer when he was 18, and let me say... it was a little rough! Ten years later the quality of the hide and the paint work really showed the work of a novice, but he has stuck with it. Since then he has done three other head mounts for me and tanned several hides. All I can say is NIGHT and DAY difference. Practice makes perfect!

Re: My First Deer Mount

It just looks a little wierd to me. The eye and cheek bone area. May be it was how it was tanned. Hey, no hard feelings, I was giving my honest opinion. You would rather have that, than me give you a candy coated one, right? But everyone else on here likes it so, go with that.

I am not a taxidermist nor would ever have the time to do it myself. I give you alot of credit for attempting it. I would be too nervous to have that big of a deer be my first one. Beauty is in the mind of the beholder, you seem to be proud of it, so that's all that counts.
