ODH
I have a ladder stand on the edge of a tree line that jolts out of the woods. I have the ladder held up with rachet straps. The problem is that they're blue, and I was told that deer see the color blue really well. So should I cover them with camo tape or something like that? maddhunter
Re: Tree stand question? Wouldn't hurt to put something on them. I used black spray paint on mine one year, but of course I painted them at home.
Stinger-Hunter
Re: Tree stand question? I would use something that doesn't smell - the taping sounds better than spray paint to me, but who knows. How long has the stand been up? If they get used to seeing the blue, it won't matter anyway. Deer become conditioned like all other animals (humans too)

VTbowman
Re: Tree stand question? Dont bother. I have a home-made ladder stand (Steel with alum ladder) that uses a blue ratchet strap 3" wide and deer pass with 10 feet of it all the time. (14 footer) Luke shot his ML doe from it last year and there was a 9 pt chasing a doe around it during the rut someone saw from the road. (I unfortunately was hunting way up in the woods that evening...)
JimT
Re: Tree stand question? Like Buckee said..I would not worry about it. They will get used to the stand being there..regardless of what color straps you use.
Tominator
Re: Tree stand question? I wouldn't worry. We've strapped them up with blue, red, yellow--doesn't seem to bother the deer at all, in fact my buddy ohiobucks missed a 150"+ at less than 10 yards in a hang on stand that was ratcheted with a red strap. billygoat
Re: Tree stand question? Don't worry about it, but if you are, and it is making you subconcious, go to walmart, and buy a $4.00 camo wratchet starp, or black. Regardless of your decision, I think you will be fine. Best of luck.
christsavedme
Re: Tree stand question? Don't think I would worry about it that much. But like Billygoat said....if you are going to be worrying about it go to Wally World and buy you a camo one! That would be the easiest thing to do IMO>

ThethirdI
Re: Tree stand question? Doesn't sound like an issue to me. They'll get used to it if it is up for a while.
Rhino
Re: Tree stand question? If it's already there I wouldn't worry about it. They get used to it and won't pay it any attention at all. I've got some hung with blue, orange, red, and yellow. Mater of fact the I had to use some 27' x 3" yellow ratchet straps on a 20' stick ladder to get around one tree that I have one of my hang on stands in to bowhunt. Shorter straps wouldn't go around the tree. I had it hung in mid summer last year and only lossened it up this past spring before getting it ready again about a month ago. Killed a doe during the 1st week of bowseason last year eating acorns that fell from the tree my stand is in. One of the bigger bucks I caught in July with my trail camera was about 30 yards from that same tree stand. If you were going to hang your ladder stand right before the season that would be different but if they have some time to get used to it, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Tony
Re: Tree stand question? color doesnt really matter like everyone else said.. but make sure none of the strap is hanging loose.. nothing spooks deer worse than a strap end flapping in the wind... i know from experience.. DSGB
Re: Tree stand question? There was an old timer who hunted a stand on Ft. Benning that had a blue tarp around it. He killed plenty of deer out of it too. They'll get used to it being there. I wouldn't worry about it.

I would put a matching blue stripe around your camo, so that it seems seamless though.... Wouldn't want the deer to get suspicious when they can't see the blue like when you're not on stand.
