GWSmith
Re: How Much $$ on Bow Set Up????? You guys are going to laugh at me for this but its the truth! My wife gave me$500 and said: "Go get the bow you want". So working within those boundarys I picked the best i could afford(including accessories). Walked into the Bass Pro Shops in Auburn, NY. After trying everything they had setup for the "Feel of the Bow" I came up with what suited me the best... PSE Typhoon ($299) Muzzy Zero Effect Rest ($89) Carbon Supreme 350 Arrows ($69 a Doz.) String Loop (cant remember the $cost) ...and a couple other things also went to the counter...at first. When the bill came up to over $500 I started putting things back on the shelf Anywho...walked out with everything and enough money to stop on the way home and get 1 soda I had already got my sight on Ebay for $14 something or other. (we're not going to talk about all the stuff I've slipped under the wire since then...like getting the Magnock System, Broadheads, Block Target, Winn Free-Flight Release, Multiple refletchings of the arrows, etc...) billygoat
Re: How Much $$ on Bow Set Up????? I started Bowhunting with a Hoyt MT Sport (package bow) that cost me right around $300.00, at the time I bought a 1/2 dozen GTip arrows (40) a release (25) and some broadheads (17.00)... a cheap plastic case (19.00). I mooched a tree stand, and I was set! Just over $400.00 I killed plenty of deer with that set up (6) to be exact. I shot numerous 3-D shoots and indoor league... and never had a problem. This month I purchased a Hoyt VTec... Have not had it out to a 3-d shoot, no winter league... and (0) deer (to be exact)... And I've got much more money in this bow (w/accessories), than my feable old MT Sport... probably over $1200... But as it stands... The old MT still has a better record than my new VTEC. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to go back, I love Belle. Just the fact that there's nothing wrong with a $300.00 package bow (anymore). These companies are producing such superior equipment that one of these bows in an average shooters hands, will allow them to shoot a 3" group at 20 yards. I guess the question becomes, is it worth the $700-$800 to you to have the added quality? Some people it isn't, others it is.

[/ QUOTE ] Hey bud I have no reason to laugh at you. I had been shooting the same bow for over 10 years up til this year. I had been dreaming of a new bow for a few years but never had the chance financially til this year. I put about $900 up this year and ended up with my wonderful Browning Illusion. I can't tell you the difference between old bow and new bow. Oh yeah and I bought a used Bushnell Yardage Pro compact 600 last week. That was $130 so I guess you can add that in. The nice thing about archery is that you can spend as little or as much as you want to. I didn't have to get a new bow the old one would still kill a deer. I just didn't feel confident when I shot it.

robk
Re: How Much $$ on Bow Set Up????? [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] if i listed mine oout today and included the arrows and releases and the all i would have about 1200 in the bow and other gear. but that doesn't make a person a shooter or hunter am i right about this or not and if it is for bragging then that;s not a cool thing. people know you don';t have to buy the best bows or or the best release but you need to buy t good equipment to go on the bow and you can be shooting with a couple of dozen arrows and not spend over 500 and for soem not even 400 dollars they all kill you just have to be able to put he arrow in the right spot rob k [/ QUOTE ] Rob, My post definately wasn't ment for bragging by any means. Just wanted to see how much differance there is in how much we all spend on bow hunting and equipment. I hunted for years without having $125 in my whole setup and killed plenty of deer. You are right it is all about shot placement. Although a good bow and set up does help no matter what the price. [/ QUOTE ] sorry didn't mean it to come out like that i was just making a statement because i see people who will one day before a season will open and they buy everything and get it tuned to 20 yards and go out the next day and try to kill a deer but it wasn't meant to put you down sorry about that rob k

I guess it may be bragging a little since it's the first new bow I've ever bought and probably my last except for the son's. I've waited a long time for a new bow and I'm glad I did!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE MY SWITCHBACK!!!!!!!
