Grant-KS
I've been working 2 days/week with Terry Pitts, a landscaper at Sterling College. We basically maintain the beds, irrigation, mulching, weeding, spraying, etc. Most of the summer, you might see 2-3 people other than some of the other maintenance guys around. Well, the kids are all back now, and WOWZERS!!! Well, lets just say some are significantly better looking than the maintenance guys I've been seeing around all summer. LOL It's hard to get any work done around there, not to mention the fact that I had to stop all the time while one of them walked by so I wouldn't throw things at them with the trimmer. Anyway, just thought I'd post a random thought.
slugshooter
Re: Why did I go and get a job at a college??? I know why I got a job at a college, for the free tuition!! Getting to look at the new crop of Freshman girls as they drive through the gate is what I consider a perk.

Grant-KS
Re: Why did I go and get a job at a college??? I'm not doing workstudy. I'm just a Junior in HS making money working for a private contractor maintaining the landscape at the college, but they're still walking around all the time, and they're all too darned old. Whenever I have to walk past some of them, I assume my confident hitman walk (the hitman walk is staying bolt upright, assuming a cold, hard face showing no emotion, looking straight at your target or destination at all times, and walking steadily appearing to walk through anything that gets in the person's way) and go toodling right past 'em without batting an eye. It's really fun clearing aisles in Wal-Mart doing the hitman walk. If you happen to make any eye contact especially, they just sort of ease off to the side and get out of the way. It's kind of mean, but entertaining as well. Sorry for the bunny trail. LOL
christsavedme
Re: Why did I go and get a job at a college??? Man I know what you mean....Where I grew up there was a small college in the town. Well I started working for the grounds dept. there when I was 15 and stayed there until I was 22. Man those were some great years. Pretty easy work and lots of fun! LOL

He had a problem with me for some reason...... He assumed the hitman walk, and I didn't move..... He did NOT walk through me.....lol I never laid a hand on him except to offer to help him up, which he refused of course. lol Congrats on the job, your boss hiring????? Grant-KS
Re: Why did I go and get a job at a college??? Huntn4, and oo, yeah, noone would truly believe that I was a hitman...unless of course I had a bulge with a...say 75 degree angle to it under my shirt or something like that, which would say "stupid hitman", but oh well. There are occasionaly the people who don't even look, and those who just don't give a darn. Now, as for the girls...Terry had me replace about 12 yews that were dying off at Mcreery hall, a girls dorm. We just can't seem to get them to get firmly established around here. Terry opted to replace them with Old Gold Junipers because they are a much more hardy bush. I was working at replacing these when a girl who was very fair to look upon came walking by, and said "Aww, it's beautiful!" I was like YEEEESSSSSSS!!!!! Later on, two girls who looked just as good walked by and one said "looks nice!" YEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! I planted the rest of the bushes with a stupid grin on my face. LOL It's great when someone says thanks for the work you guys do around here, or compliments you on your work, but the cute girls give it some extra punch. LOL The great thing is, I know that they're way too old for me, so I don't get all nervous and stuttery when they're around. And last but DEFINATELY not least, all of the girls say "Hi." or something if you say hello to them. Some of the guys, and even some of the male staff just look at you with a stupid blank stare for a while, say absolutely nothing and keep walking even if they're like a couple feet from you. It sort of makes ya want to pop them one in the face. Yesterday was my last regular 2 day week at the college for the summer. I go back to that six letter word that starts with an s on Monday, but I'll be working Thursdays until Terry's done for the year, then doing landscape planning etc. study in school. Personally, I think the ladies like confidence and sincerity. I don't think the "hitman" will impress too many of the ladies for too long. Be yourself. Next time one of them admires your work, you might just innoently say "What do you think?" or "think that looks good there?" You never know....... [/ QUOTE ] Join the club, there's this guy that works in the admissions office at the college I work at that I am about to go round and round with. Long story short, I work at the Welcome Center at the college, basically a guard shack at the entrance, every car that comes up I have to go out there and wave and put on a half baked fake smile and if the car doesn't have a parking sticker then I have to stop them and ask them where they're going etc. etc., the problem is half the time I could be out there jumping up and down naked and they wouldn't stop because people are just plain stupid and it would be beneath them to talk to a security guard. Anywhoo, this admissions guy, he used to come in every weekend and roll down his window and say "I'm David Webb, I work in the admissions office, I need this, this, and this unlocked." Well, needless to say I already knew who he was , where he worked, and the building he needs unlocked on Sat. for tours are always open on Sat., Well, one saturday when he came in and went through his spiel, I responded, I know who you are, where you work, and the buildings you need are always open on Sat. Well, that curbed that, but now when he drives on, he goes out of his way to look that other way at an empty soccer field just so he won't have to look at me and wave, when he finally does look over at me he is already almost though the gate and gives me a stare that should only be used when looking at the newest post hole diggers at Sears. Recently though I have begun just turning around after I wave at him while he is so rapt with attention to the empty soccer field, if he hasn't looked over by then, he'll be looking at my back when he finally does turn and look. I could care less, if he says anything to my boss I'll tell him whats the point in me staying out there when he isn't even looking at me. We security guards are like the redheaded step children of the college, most people are only nice to us when they need something, and when something is going wrong we are the first to blame even if it has nothing to do with us. I had this girl that showed up last week because of football practice starting, she was an athletic trainer so she had to be there also. Well, the college has a card access system to get into the dorms and well, her ID card wasn't authorized to get in there, mainly because she was a commuter last year and I guess now she is gonna live on campus, anyhoo, she comes to the gate and asks why the Security Office was closed, well, it's Sunday, every office is closed, she says "Well, I have to move into the dorm and I don't have time to be waiting around for someone to come let me in" I said, "well thats what you're gonna have to do, we are aware of the situation and you aren't the only one with the same problem." "So what, I gotta wait 2 weeks before school starts before I can get my ID authorized," I told her "No, you have to wait until tomorrow when the office opens in the morning." She leaves and a half hour later she calls up griping because well, there's a soccer camp that has been staying on campus for the week and they hadn't left yet, they were supposed to leave at 2pm, its about 12:30 right now. She calls up saying "I have to move into my room and there's kids stuff in there and what am I supposed to do and blah, blah, blah." I tell he let me call Crysy(lady in charge of housing) and see what she says, maybe they can put you in another room or something" I can't be put into another room, what am I supposed to do move my stuff into one room and them move it out? (This is a college girl mind you, not very bright is she, you think maybe she could have waited a couple hours to move her stuff in?) Anyhoo, she continues "I don't have time for that, I have stuff I have to start doing tomorrow and I don't have time for that. " I politely told her that "Like I said before, let me call Crysy and find out what she wants to do." then, she eroded the last bit of my patience by saying "You need to be better prepared for stuff like this when students are coming back" This time, not as politely and a little louder " LOOK, Don't be calling up here and telling me what I need to be prepared for when I have nothing to do with it." "Well, who can I talk to who does have something to do with it." "LIKE I SAID BEFORE, I AM GOING TO CALL CRYSY AND FOUND OUT WHAT SHE WANTS YOU TO DO!" That shut her up. A little long. I guess I needed to vent.

Grant-KS
Re: Why did I go and get a job at a college??? No, no, no Tom...I'm certainly not trying to impress them. It's a shield that I use occasionaly to get past them without stopping, or getting nervous or anything. However, if one of them says something, I will certainly reply after yanking out my earplugs (I run a trimmer for about a day there).
