Smitteken
This is for the Illinois hunters. Last year I didn't have time to hunt the first couple weeks of November. Thats when the rut in my area was in pretty good swing the prior year. Just curious to when it hit big last year. And to when people think it will hit again this year. I'm trying to plan my vacation time so I can get in the woods in all the action.
slaw
Re: Southern IL Rut It was a strange rut last year for some reason, I think it hit the first 2 weeks of november, thats when I seen more deer runnning around and I got my bow-kill buck was the first week of nov. and he stunk something fierce and had been fighting too. Tominator
Re: Southern IL Rut OK, so I'm not from Illinois, but I'll toss in my $.02 on the moon phase. New moon is November 2nd this year. Typically in Central and Southern Ohio, that means a pretty intense rut in the first week of November. If I were you, I'd look at the week of Halloween for intense pre-rut, or the week after and you should be sittin' phat.
Ohiobucks
Re: Southern IL Rut Check this months issue of Deer & Deer Hunting, they have a pretty good write up on the "projected" rut times for this fall for everywhere. I will try to find it online and post. Seemed to remember them projecting a later than usual rut, like 2nd and 3rd week of November......... need2hunt
Re: Southern IL Rut I hunted in Johnson county the week before shotgun season and the bucks were extremely "stupid"
MUDRUNNER
Re: Southern IL Rut The last few years it seems the first two weeks of November have been when I've seen the most chasing and rutting activity.
Guest 2500HD
Re: Southern IL Rut I agree, Holloween thru 2nd week in Nov should be prime again. Saw most of my activity in mid Nov last year. Just take the whole month of Nov off and you will feel much better!
ksdeerhunter03
Re: Southern IL Rut Not sure about IL, but my KS deer rut the first week of Nov almost every year!
Smitteken
Re: Southern IL Rut So if I open up Oct 30 through about Nov. 10 I'll be looking good. Man I hope the bugs stop biting by then.
ilhnter
Re: Southern IL Rut I've hunted southern Illinois all my life, and at least where i hunt the rut is the first two weeks of november every year. Those two weeks is when you see the big boys roaming.
Mach1
Re: Southern IL Rut I saw lots of bucks between Halloween and Thanksgiving. I too thought it was a strange rut as I didn't see the bucks really chasing at all. Most of the bucks I saw were alone but didn't really seem like they were in the "mood." The buck I shot during the first shotgun season didn't really stink that much either. But that last week of Oct. and first couple of Nov. are definitely the primetime when I try to get away from school more often.
