Turkeygirl
Ok, I was cleaning this morning in the library at college when I picked up a local newspaper from yesterday and it sent that the bill for allowing rifle hunting is some NY counties, including mine, was sent to Pataki's office for him to either sign or veto. The thing I'm really annoyed about is the fact that they said NY deer numbers are high in NY state and rifles will allow more deer to be harvested/more hunters to hunt, blah blah blah. Well I got one of those DMP/deer mailings in the mail the other day; you know the one with the WMU's and your chances of getting a DMP in it? Well my WMU is listed as having no chance of a second DMP and a 1/3-2/3 chance of a person to get 1 DMP.....None of this makes sense that they either say deer numbers are too high or deer numbers are low. Just because one county has too high or too low a deer population doesn't mean every county is like that. Guys, am I just nuts or what? I still feel that where I live, rifles will be dangerous, especially in the hands of our neighbors, lol, and now hunters can shoot at deer across a field. I think the deer populations will get messed up even more. Just my opinion I guess..
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: NY rifle law...................... Well, if you think it's a bad idea you should write or call the Governor and tell him to veto it.
BuckNrut
Re: NY rifle law...................... Got 2 DMPs for 8H - I forgot to pay Compro and he forgot to collect, but I'm honest and paid up anyway. And, NO RIFLES up here. Do I here the pitter patter of squeaky wheels driving up 390? Doc
Re: NY rifle law...................... I'll just bet that they are not going to extend the "500 feet from a building" law to compensate for extra range of the rifles either. They didn't when muzzleloaders were legalized and they won't do it for high-powered rifles either. Doc
wtnhunt
Re: NY rifle law...................... [ QUOTE ] I still feel that where I live, rifles will be dangerous [/ QUOTE ] Rifles can be dangerous anywhere TG. Honestly rifle hunting here has always been the biggest season(most draw of people to the woods), and yes there are some people out there who should probably not be taking to the woods with any type of weapon, but that is a another issue entirely. buckshot
Re: NY rifle law...................... TG, I live and hunt in 7m and no dmps will be issued this yr,even to landowners.I've been hunting deer for 30yrs and this is a 1st that no doe tags will be allowed. But I'm still in favor of the rifle bill.My 30/30 is more accurate, less expensive to shoot and doesn't kick like an army mule.lol
RangerClay
Re: NY rifle law...................... Buckshot, I grew up in 7M and that is where I do all of my southern tier hunting. I hunt in Hamilton and N. Brookfield. Where do you hunt/live? As for the rifle issue, I wish they included 7M but it didn't. My 16 ga. is VERY accurate but has no range. Last year I tried to knock down a wounded spike horn that went limping by me in a field about 150 yards. I would have had better luck hitting him with snowballs. I hope somebody got him so he didn't suffer much. Ranger

Maybe we can hook up before deer season for a cold one and share some stories. It's too bad the Bull Thistle closed, I liked their beer. The last I heard the bill included all of Chenago County but not Madison County. So you are one of the lucky one's. Have fun with the .30-.30, wish I could use mine Ranger

RangerClay
Re: NY rifle law...................... Thanks, I will keep that in mind if I get a free day. I wish I lived closer to that region again. I grew up in Hamilton and married a girl from Columbus. I was accually married in Sherburne at St. Malachy's back in 1995. We probably have crossed paths occasionally. Ranger
