coles
my god-father is big into the wildcat cartridges and he gave me a 25 Gibbs for my birthday. its a 25-06 with just a shaper neck on it for more velocity. the only problem iwth these wildcats is you cant buy the ammo. but we hand load alot so it shouldnt be a problem. but i cant wait to shoot it. 7th
Re: got a new rifle for my b-day!!!!!! grats on the new one, and rolling your own don't save any money. I spend just as much as friends that I shoot with do, only I shoot more then they do from Woly-world ammo. Frank.

AJ
Re: got a new rifle for my b-day!!!!!! Congrats on your new gun. Actually, the Gibbs is a bit more than just the standard case with a sharper shoulder. The shoulder has been moved fowrard and is steeper. This means you can not use regular 25-06 ammo in the gun. If it was a 25-06 Ackley Improved, you can at least use standard ammo to fireform brass. It can be a pain in the butt to fireform the brass for a Gibbs, or downright dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. Hope you got dies with it also, or he will help load the ammo. Wait till you see the cost of the custom dies.
coles
Re: got a new rifle for my b-day!!!!!! yeah he gave me dies for it and my dad reloads almost everything we shoot. my god-father gives us guns all the time and we are very lucky to get them. but almost everything he gives us is custom made so we have to reload everything. he has also given me a 270 Gibbs, 7mm-300wthby, my dad has a 7mm-300 also, my brother has a 270 gibbs and a .338. and my god-father hand loads even the 338 so we reload everything. i shot the 25 Gibbs today but it would shoot two cutting each other and then the other would shoot 6 inches away. i just wanted to go out and shoot it but it ended up getting up to about 85 so i think that was the problem. we will go back out when its cooler. sweet shootin gun though. doubleA
Re: got a new rifle for my b-day!!!!!! I am with AJ on this one. While reloading the Gibbs cartridges are not any different than standard ones forming the cases are not for the beginner in my opinion. The shoulder is moved forward about 1/10th of an inch and getting the headspace is critical to say the least. There are safe and unsafe ways of doing this. All of the Gibbs calibers improve upon the standard cartridges based on the ol 06 case. Just be carefull when using old reloading data as some of it on the "hot" side. Pictured below is a 25-06 Rem, 6.5 Gibbs, 270 Win. Notice the steep shoulder and how it has been moved forward, thus increasing case capacity on the Gibbs.
