Re: Montecs or Crimsons

its my opinion that the Montecs are by far a much better broadhead . plus you can prctice with them . the crimson talons you cant really practice with because they are very thin and can be damaged with practice..

we sell a lot of Montecs at the shop where i help out at..

Shoot Strong

I don't have any experience with the Montecs, but they look like a great broadhead. They appear to be sturdy and easy to sharpen.I can vouch for the Crimson Talons. They are a great head and I didn't need any sight adjustmant between them and my field points, and they do an unbelievable amount of damage. The downside to the Crimsons is they are almost impossible to target shoot with.

Re: Montecs or Crimsons

I had trouble with the Montecs with accuracy and tuning. I stayed away from the Talons because of their weak blades. I went with the NAP nitrons. They are the most awesome broadhead I have ever seen. Hit dead on with my field tips. Flew great out to 50+ yards. I killed a deer from 43 yards out last year with them. Try them if you havent made up your mind and I can bet you will love them

With that low of draw weight you should shoot something that is a cut on contact. I highly recommend the Steel Force heads for low draw weight. My son killed a buck with 32 pounds and a Steel Force head. Had about 20 inches of penetration. I have shot them out of my bow to test them and they fly great.

Good Hunting

Now with the Montecs I have to respecfully disagree......and while I shoot Muzzy 4-blades exclusively, I had great accuracy out of the Montecs......normally when having problems tuning a fixed blade broadhead, it is not the blades fault, but more likely how the insert is aligned with the arrow shaft.......these new "micro" heads like the crossfire, nitron etc......seem to make up for it, just as a mechanical does, but there still may be hidden alingment problems.........I'm just glad those new heads shoot great for you....... wink.gif

I have always haad trouble with my tuning because I shoot a 24 in draw length and 70lb bow. Its critical that everything is lined up. I still cant get it to hit on paper just right, I just have had fantastic results with the nitron. Everyone seems to love the montecs. I had more trouble with the muzzys than the montecs with my tuning problems. They will all kill deer, and once tuned properly will do it effeciently.

What is the difference between cut on contact and cut on impact. Ive seen things refered to as cut on impact with three blades meeting at a tip. Montec is such a head.

Re: Montecs or Crimsons

Now I am leaning toward montecs but I am still wondering if two of the newer Crimsons. The crimson croc and the black mamba. The croc looks a little tougher than the old ones and is a cut on contact. They claim the tip actulally cuts calling it a spiral cut tip. Looks interesting. It is an expadable and they claim it uses inertia to open it so there is no energy loss. I'm Guessing there is a ball or another object in back to push on these lever-things you see when it is open. There is research at www.spintite.com

Re: Montecs or Crimsons

By the way....this one should be followed by a field report wink.gif

If you use the talons ( frown.gif ) please do a search for "field notes" and try to submit so that I can add this to the seasons reports.

It would be a big favor to anyone in the future.
