What are the calling techniques to work on in preperation?Or should I just do the same run of the mill hen talk? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks. If I were you I would find a FLOCK. Just Take off running at them. Get the babies busted up away from there mom. I would then get in the middle and start doing some KEE KEE RUNS. what that is, is the baby trying to tell the mother where they are. Then they should come walking back in! dogdoc Posted August 20, 2005 Report Share Posted August 20, 2005 Re: Fall calling question. yep--busting the flock is the way to go---then set up and do some kee kee or some soft yelps--sound like a lost bird trying to find the flock--this will work a lot of times. personally I like to set up on major trails leading from roosting areas to feeding area and try to intercept them. several years ago i snuck up on a big flock----it was a spur of the moment decision but I hid in a group of cows---and actually slowly pushed the cows toward the turkeys---when the cows got to about 40 yards from the flock i just fell to the ground and let the cows wonder off---the turkeys never supsected a thing as they were use the cows. picked out the biggest bird and boom! i almost felt guilty it was so easy! todd Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

All good advice, but I would try to call the flock to you first and if that dosen't work I would bust them up and start Kee Keeing. If you are not sure on how to call to them just call like they do, imitate them but with a little more feeling. slughunter Posted August 21, 2005 Report Share Posted August 21, 2005 Re: Fall calling question. what me and my grandpa do is scater or scare the flock so they all fly in different directions, then we sit down and call. the reason we do this is because turkeys allways gather at the place the get seperated and when you call it sounds like the hen is gathering the flock. works like a charm. Does it matter if the kee kee sounds raspy? I thought immature birds sounded high pitched? It kind of sounds like a yelp, but it isn't.. [/ QUOTE ] Last year while at the Harrisburg Sportsmans Show, I got a Kee-Kee call from the people who made my slate caller. Boy does this thing make real good kee-kee calls! They have a website, but for some reason it is not working! I even tried there phone number that is on the call. Its disconnected! Too bad this call works great! I better baby this thing! It figures!
